Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Pech
Hi Tina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Here’s a refined version of your business bio:
I’ve always been a creative person. I went to graphic design school and cosmetology school, but after becoming a mom of three girls (now 11, 9, and 6), my creativity mostly focused on crafts with them. For a long time, I hadn’t created anything just for myself. I had dreamed of doing a craft show but wasn’t sure where to start.
My husband, Pech, is a self-taught woodworker—when we first met, he didn’t even own a hammer! Now, he can make just about anything. He taught me how to use a miter saw and band saw, and together, we started making small projects. We did our first craft show, and that was the beginning of Sawdust + Stain.
Now, three years later, our business has grown and changed in amazing ways. We’ve added a laser machine that allows us to create wooden games and personalized gifts that help families celebrate special moments.
Our newest venture is our earring line, Reclaimed by S+S. This collection has two meanings: First, we craft earrings from reclaimed materials like bowling alley lanes, board games, school desks, and baseball bats. Second, it’s about helping busy moms reclaim a little piece of themselves—to feel confident and put together, even in the midst of all the chaos.
We’re excited to see where this journey takes us! You can find our work at craft shows and in our booth at Painted Tree Boutiques in Crestview Hills, KY.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The Challenges Behind the Dream
Running a business is a constant learning curve. As business owners, we wear all the hats—makers, marketers, accountants, customer service, and everything in between. Every day brings something new to figure out, which is both challenging and exciting.
But if we’re being honest, the hardest part has been the financial side. Taking that leap of faith is never easy—especially when my husband quit his full-time job so we could fully pursue this dream. He used to work 50-60+ hours a week, which didn’t leave much time for family. Now, he still works just as much (maybe even more, haha), but the difference is we’re doing it together.
Our daughters love being involved, whether it’s helping at shows, organizing supplies, or just watching us bring ideas to life. They see firsthand what it means to work hard, take risks, and build something from the ground up.
It hasn’t always been easy, but we wouldn’t trade it for anything. We’re grateful for this journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of Sawdust + Stain. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
About Sawdust + Stain
At Sawdust + Stain, we create handcrafted wooden games, personalized gifts, and unique earrings that celebrate family, connection, and creativity. What started as a small passion project has grown into a business that brings people together through meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces.
We’re best known for our high-quality craftsmanship and thoughtfully designed products that make gift-giving and family time extra special. Whether it’s a custom-engraved game that sparks laughter around the table or a pair of reclaimed-wood earrings that help a busy mom feel put together, everything we make is designed with purpose and heart.
What sets us apart? Family is at the core of everything we do. We’re not just a business—we’re a husband-and-wife team who took a leap of faith to build something from the ground up. Our daughters are part of the process, and we love that they get to see firsthand what hard work, creativity, and resilience look like. We also take pride in using reclaimed materials in our earring line, Reclaimed by S+S, turning forgotten pieces of history into something beautiful and new.
What we’re most proud of is the community we’ve built. The families who gather around our games, the customers who find the perfect, heartfelt gift, the moms who feel empowered by a simple pair of earrings.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
This is short and simple, just start! No one knows what they are doing and you can’t figure it out if you don’t try.
