Meet Tiffany Boggins of WitchLab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Boggins.

Hi Tiffany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started WitchLab in 2010 after my third child was born. I made the decision to quit my job and stay home with my kids. Not only did this allow me to be with my children as they were growing, it also gave me the time to focus on what I really wanted to pursue professionally, which was exploring my love of witchcraft, herbs, and essential oils. I started with designing natural perfumes, herbal products, and occult items. After a few years, it expanded into offering tarot readings and classes on elemental magic. By 2017 the operation had outgrown my basement and I started looking for a retail space to expand into. WitchLab found a new home at 1185 West Broad St in Franklinton and opened its doors on December 21st, 2018. With the new space, I was able to introduce more of my personal loves into the collection including taxidermy, oddities, antiques, and art as well as being able to host more classes and workshops with visiting instructors.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business is a large endeavor. So large that I think if I actually saw the whole picture in the beginning, it would have been too overwhelming and discouraging. Thankfully, the amount of work that goes into it unfolds as one learns the process. There were times, there still are times, when I am overwhelmed with the amount that needs done. I have always had trouble asking for help, and it wasn’t until I was drowning and desperate that I would reach out and ask for assistance – even from the staff, the people that I’ve employed to help me. I have since learned how to delegate and let go of some of the responsibilities.

Trusting others with your business can be very scary. This was also something I had to come to terms with. Finding the right people is so important and can take some time. But I did find them, and I was able to unclench my fists from the reins of handling everything and ask for help. This freed me up to be able to see the bigger picture, the real goal, and what my role should be. The stable growth of the business is the goal and my role is to steer it in the right direction.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
WitchLab, an Occult Boutique. We offer magical tools and supplies, oddities, antiques, and original art. We strive to create a safe, magical atmosphere where learning and community are encouraged and you can also pick up some unique items to help create your own magical space.

We offer monthly classes and discussions groups in person and online including the Tarot Tea Party, Cultum Librorum (our book club), and The Circle of the Dark Mother meetings as well as host classes and workshops from authors and teachers from near and far sharing information on everything magical.

In-house, WitchLab makes teas, perfumes, ritual oils, ritual bath kits, as well as various personal care products such as skin toner, beard oil, and skin balm with herbs and essential oils.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Business owners are often bombarded with decisions. This can be extremely intimidating, and often the only way to know the right thing to do is by trying something and seeing if it succeeds or fails. Both results will teach you lessons.

Having a clear vision of what I want my business to accomplish helps me to make the right decisions. So, I would say keeping perspective of what’s important and looking at the business from the eyes of the employees and the customers are what have contributed the most to the success of WitchLab.
