Meet Stephen Bashada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Bashada.

Hi Stephen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I got started in tattooing later in life than most. I went through a traditional apprenticeship in my early 30s. After that, I bounced around a bit and got to work in and learn from all different types of shops. From old-school street shops to high-tech modern shops. I started my tattoo career in Cincinnati, Ohio, and moved out to New Jersey for a few years. While I was out there, I really hit my stride at White Wolf Tattoo. I recently moved back to Ohio and work at Every Body Tattoo in Mason.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! This industry comes with its fair share of challenges. For me, I think the biggest struggle has been the time away from my family. When you’re an apprentice you’re working tons of hours for free. And once you get out there on your own, you work constantly trying to make a name for yourself. I was always willing to be the first one there or the last to leave. Add in all of the traveling for conventions, and it doesn’t leave much time for family stuff. I have 5 kids and an amazingly supportive wife. I’m at a place in my career now where I can be there more and I’m digging it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I prefer to tattoo in the American Traditional style, showcasing clean bold lines and solid colors. I’m known for a great tattoo experience. You’re gonna come in, laugh your ass off, listen to some Black Sabbath and leave with a dope ass tattoo. I’m also known for my clean lines and always respecting the history of tattooing.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
What you put in is what you get out.
