Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelli Reed.
Hi Shelli, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
So my mom originally opened the restaurant in 1980! So we have been in business for over 45 years. My husband and I took over around 11 years ago and shortly after we took over the building had a fire and we lost almost everything. At the time the building owner had no insurance and my mom did not either so we basically had to start over. So we took out loans and rebuilt and moved to our new and current location around nine years ago! We love being part of our local downtown Wadsworth!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, the biggest struggle was the fire and the rebuilding. The Wadsworth community has really rallied behind us and helped us get back on our feet. Approximately five years ago we had a deer crashed through our front door during business hours and did about $20,000 worth of damage to the restaurant. Luckily insurance did cover that. We also struggled through Covid like most of other small businesses but again we do have an awesome community here!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Since opening in 1980, we have been known for our cheesesteak subs! There’s also a few other favorites, including the Italian sub, the shrimp, Poboy and our homemade meatball sub!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
When I was 10 years old, my mom opened the restaurant so I basically grew up working there. I can credit my hard work ethic to my parents. So I run the restaurant, but I am also a pediatric nurse practitioner and work for Akron Children’s Hospital here in Wadsworth. So I can say I don’t have much downtime and stay extremely busy!
