Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Okey.
Hi Shannon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Cleveland Bazaar started in 2004 as a once-a-year holiday popup. Our first event was at what is now 78th Street Studios and that is where our largest annual event takes place. Now we host handmade pop-ups year-round, notably for holiday, Valentine’s Day and all summer long across from the West Side Market. We have worked with hundreds of makers, artists, and small businesses since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of our largest challenges have been building a social media following large enough to promote the event thanks to issues with traditional media.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to running Bazaar, I am a knitting designer and book publisher. My publishing house Cooperative Press is now over a decade old and has published more than 75 books by myself and other designers.
What makes you happy?
The ability to help other creatives get their art out in front of other people: it’s a challenge but a pleasurable one.
