Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Hunter
Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In October of 2020 I married the love of my life, Jason and with prepping for our wedding I dove head first into crafting. Creating wooden signs, can koozies and all the decorations to bring all the aspects of our dream wedding to life. I fell in love with crafting and creating at this time but it was not until after I had my first child July 2021 that I truly took my creations seriously. In September of 2022 I launched MJ’s Modern Creations – MJ’s for our daughter Maggie Jean! Struggling with my identity outside of being a wife, mom and public health nurse – MJ’s Modern Creations was and still is my outlet. I love creating all the tees and custom apparel, working with individuals to bring their ideas to life. Creating the special items for somebody’s wedding, memorial scholarship fundraiser, the welcoming of a new child or celebration of a little one being promoted to a big sibling, birthday tees and all the tees you wear on a random Tuesday just because you love it. Since starting MJ’s we’ve added so many wonderful items – and I’m always sure to support other small business vendors! We’ve also added a son, a forever home and have high hopes of opening a store front right here on our property in the near future!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my biggest challenges to navigate is seeming to never have quite enough time – there is always a message or email that needs answered, tees that need made or social media that needs managed! I truly struggled with juggling all the hats I wear both with MJ’s, at home and at work – learning to set boundaries (and stick to them!) I’ve created a whole weekly outline that I now follow and have more lists than I probably need – but it has improved my mental health and workflow tremendously!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Create custom graphic apparel, sublimation apparel, work with small shops to bring custom embroidery, women + children’s boutique clothing and truly so much more!
We also offer MJ’s Tee and Hat Bars! Where you can either host an online or in person party or pop up shop! We hVe a variety of on hand prints and shirts where you can piece them together and create your own custom apparel or our fully loaded trucker hat bar with embroidered and leather hat patches, hat transfers, pins, chains and a full selection of hats to choose from!
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We love collaborating with other local small shops – we have several events planned! We are working with Waynesfield Goshen High School FFA to bring a Spring Vendor + Craft Show to their school, we work with The Launch Pad in Wapakoneta – this is a space that offers temporary shop rentals which allows us to have our own little store front pop up shops, we just completed our first MJ’s Girls Day a Sip + Shop Bus Trip – where we take a 6 ish hour bus trip to local eateries, wineries and small shops! We are in the process of launching our next two girls day trips for June + October! We love to support small towns, small shops and our youth!
