Meet Sabrina Rubio of Rubi Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Rubio.

Sabrina Rubio

Hi Sabrina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My passion for anything that has to do with beauty started a young age that consisted of braiding my doll’s hair and playing with my mom’s makeup. When I was in high school developed a love for makeup. I was always the friend that did everyone’s makeup, and I’d practice on myself all the time, watching makeup tutorials. I went to college and basically never saw my love for beauty as a career, and I only saw it as something I’d do as a hobby or a side job until I actually got a job threading eyebrows. I began to love it, and it opened up a path for me because I finally started to see it as something I wanted to make a career out of. I ended also learning how to do lash extensions, and it was a whole new world for me. I envisioned the endless possibilities, so I dropped out of college and enrolled in esthetician school. While I was in school, I started doing lashes right out of my parent’s basement on friends, family, and anyone who would let me practice on them. After about 7 months, I graduated and immediately found a beauty studio that rented me a small room to work out of, and then ended up upgrading to a bigger room 6 months later at the same studio. In the two years that I rented from the beauty studio, my clientele grew to the point where I had recurring clients every 2-4 weeks, and I didn’t even have time to take on a new clients. I had the desire to expand, took a leap of faith, and signed a lease for my very own storefront. I’ve been licensed for over 2 years now, and it’s crazy to think how much can happen in that amount of time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely had some struggles along the way that could have stopped me, but I was really set on what I wanted. I was so afraid to drop out of college because of what people would say, and I always the felt pressure of having to do something great with my life because my parents came to this country for a better life, and my older siblings have college degrees. Once I finally told my parents what I wanted to do, they supported me, and I was enrolled to start esthetician school April of 2020. I was so excited to start as the date kept coming closer, then COVID happened, and it ended up delaying until August of 2020. I finally graduated at the beginning of 2021, and because of COVID, the licensing process was also delayed, so I wasn’t able to actually get my license until July 2021; thankfully, I was able to work with a temporary permit.

We’ve been impressed with Rubi Esthetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Rubi Esthetics currently specializes in eyelash extensions and eyebrow waxing & threading. I expanded my business because I wanted a salon environment but for lashes, creating a relaxing and luxurious experience for customers. I love what I do, and I really take my time to make sure that I’m choosing the right style that best suits my client’s facial features, whether it’s with lash extensions or brow shaping, while also staying on top of trends. Right now, it’s only me, but I will soon be creating a team to join me so that Rubi Esthetics can continue to grow.

What makes you happy?
Living my life to the fullest is what makes me happy. Making sure that I enjoy all the good moments and reminding myself that everything happens for a reason. I’ve created a mindset for myself that anything is possible, and I always try to stay positive no matter what.
