Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Osterkamp
Hi Ryan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my business in 2011 out of my house. I worked for 2 years by myself. After our son was born, I hired my first employee and moved to a 500sqft building in Deer Park, OH. We quickly outgrew that building and moved next door to something a little larger. I continued to grow year over year with adding service techs, installers and office staff. I eventually hired a marketing director to keep our phones ringing and techs working. About 5 years ago my wife joined the business and helped out with payroll and running the office. This was the part I did not like to do. We got to where we are today by reinvesting back into the business and our employees. We focus on top notch talent, knowing they will take care of our customers. I feel our company is honest and fair when it comes to our customers, and that’s what keeps them calling us when they need our services. We love word of mouth referrals. We believe that if you take care of your employees, then your employees will take care of your customers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. There is always the struggle of finding good employees. Employees stealing from me or starting their own company and trying to take my customers. I do feel we have a really good group at the moment. Another struggle I had, as the owner, is wearing all of the hats in the business. It was very stressful and made for long days and nights. It put stress on my family and I missed a lot of my kids’ games, because I would be working 7 days a week. But making that sacrifice has put me in a better position today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are proud to be one of the few remaining family-owned HVAC, plumbing, and duct cleaning companies in Cincinnati. Unlike many others who have transitioned to franchises or out-of-state ownership, we’ve stayed true to our roots. This commitment ensures you receive the exceptional, personalized service that only a local, family-owned business can provide.
Our trained technicians take the time to listen to your concerns, empower you with the education to make informed home maintenance decisions, and deliver personalized solutions that align with your wants and needs. It is our mission to equip families to enjoy their home safely and comfortably by providing affordable, high quality home services and sharing industry knowledge.
When you contact us, whether it be by phone, text or email, you’ll always be speaking to a Quality Comfort employee. Never a call center! “We take the time!”
We are also big supporters of childhood cancer research. My wife was a pediatric hematology oncology nurse at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for over a decade before joining the business. We support CancerFree KIDS, a local charity out of Loveland, as much as we can. We also support other charities, like Cookies for a Cure, that align with the same cause as much as possible.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I don’t have any in particular. As I get older, I just try to eat healthy and exercise more to have energy and feel the best I can. I follow a lot of business and HVAC groups on facebook that give me different ideas about the industry.
