Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Crispen.
Hi Ryan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started skating young around 8 or 9. For years a skateboard was just a toy that we had laying around the house one day my father randomly jumped on it and did an ollie and I fell in love right then and there. I can actually remember the set and settings of the whole thing like it was yesterday lol… from that young age up until young adulthood (early 20s) when I had my first child it was my biggest obsession and biggest love, I didn’t care about much else… Throughout my 20s I had two more children and skateboarding could no longer be my main priority but I continued to skate and be involved as much as I possibly could and knew that eventually, I would get back in track lol… Now I’m in my early thirties my children have grown, and things are less hectic I’m able to get back to the thing that I love so much I decided to open up a shop!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not exactly… I know I’m not exactly an old man lol but when it comes to the computer stuff, I’m pretty illiterate. I never took any business courses or classes, so that side of things was all new to me as well. I did my best to learn as much as I could about both, and I also did my best to stay as far ahead as possible so that way I could fix any mistakes, I ran into
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
RYNOs is 100% skateboarder! Over the years, skateboarding has gotten a lot more mainstream and bigger corporate companies have kind of taken over skateboard shops. I want to provide a place that can supply all of your skateboard needs and, at the same time, create an atmosphere where people can come together relax and hang out with each other. I want people to know, especially the skateboard community, that they shouldn’t feel obligated to spend money; they can literally just come hangout if they want.
RYNOs has all the top and upcoming brands we mostly specialize in and cater to all skateboard/equipment needs, but we do have a selection of apparel and soft goods to choose from (t-shirts, hats, bookbags, sunglasses, etc.)
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Owning and running a skate shop isn’t all fun and games lol it truly does take hard work sacrifice and extreme consistency to pull off… skateboard philosophy is “skateboarding owes you nothing you owe skateboarding everything”.
So, the way I look at it all the hard work and sacrifice and consistency it takes from me is a privilege because now I get to give back to Skateboarding
