Meet Robb Combs of Euclid, Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robb Combs.

Hi Robb, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

My story begins in 2015 when I received my first coaching job at Lutheran East High School. I went in with dreams of becoming a varsity basketball head coach one day, but after my first season I knew that my purpose was deeper than basketball. There were great needs in the lives of the young men that I coached. They needed a mentor, and they needed resources that would provide a successful life away from the typical college path. I began building my rapport and reputation within the community, and when the pandemic struck, I was one of the only people in the country with access to a gym. I knew this was my chance to create Elite Youth Enrollment, better known as E.Y.E. What started off as basketball skills training has blossomed into a mentorship program that provides young men with the guidance, mental health support, and the necessary resources to have real world success.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t say the road has been smooth, but I absolutely have not struggled. E.Y.E is a Christian organization and therefore I apply Christian parables and ideologies to it. I compare E.Y.E. to “The Arc” from the Bible and myself to Noah-navigating this journey through God’s will alone. I felt God called me to create this non-profit and I trusted His vision. God ordered me to apply for 501(c)3 status, to get an official office, and to open up a business account. All of these ventures were brand new to me. Without God’s vision for my life and His vision for E.Y.E, I would still be in the gym grinding and teaching kids how to become better basketball players. At the end of day, I am just one man with a dream to make Euclid, Ohio shine in the brightest light. Through Christ, I serve the city that I love and He provides everything else.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My day job is at Case Western Reserve University where I am an IT technician. I’ve been at Case for 10 years now. I am also a Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach at my Alma Mater Villa Angela-Saint Joseph High School (VASJ). I have been coaching for a decade now. My first 6 seasons were at Lutheran East High School where I won two State championships and my last 4 seasons were at VASJ. However, my true passion is the non-profit organization I founded, Elite Youth Enrollment (E.Y.E.). I provide mentorship and resources for young men from underserved communities. My services are available to everyone in the Cleveland area, but my primary focus is 18-25 year old men. I am known throughout Northeast Ohio as “Coach Robb” and I have built my reputation on passion, hard work, and generosity. When you are in need, you call Coach Robb- that’s what I’m here for. I am most proud of who I am in Christ, and who I am as a father. Through Christ I have created a non-profit organization that is dedicated to pouring resources into my community. The only thing that makes me stand out is the love of Christ that I work every day to show others. I’m not looking to be set apart, but I’m working to stand together with anyone that wants to help within my community.

How do you define success?
The beautiful thing about success is that it’s different for everyone. Success for me means being obedient to the Lord, being a provider and a leader in my household, showing kindness to everyone, giving back to my community, and being a present and loving father. As long as I’m striving to fulfill these goals everyday, I am successful.
