Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Wilson
Hi Olivia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always knew that I wanted to be creative in the career path I chose. When I graduated high school, I made the hard decision to take a gap year. In this gap year, I discovered a love for real estate, and decided to pursue getting my real estate license. After obtaining my license, I was an active agent for about six months before I realized I wasn’t living up to my dreams of having a creative career. I stepped back from being an agent, and noticed that there is a creative outlet in real estate that I could pursue: real estate photography. Over the past two years, I have worked with a real estate team that has taken a chance on me and my skills to become their in-house photographer, and social media manager. Now, I have been running my own real estate photography business, alongside still working with that team, since April of 2024. I love what I do and I am so excited for what my future in real estate photography holds.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, I have had a wonderful experience launching my business. I am blessed with having a lot of connections to bring in business due to being a past real estate agent. The biggest struggle is planning my workload around the pace of the market. If the market is slow, my business is slow. There is always room for growth, and I strive to get better everyday.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in real estate photography. Most people hear the word photographer and think “That’s awesome! Do you think you could take my family photos sometime?”, but that’s not all that we do. I love working with a space, rather than a person. Each space I walk into is completely different from the last, and I want to capture all of it’s best features. The most frequent compliment I hear about my work, are my angles. A lot goes into real estate photography, and having people say that my angles are notable, is the highest compliment a real estate photographer can hear. Angles are very important in capturing the essence of a room, and I am happy that my clients have found that to be my strength. Everyday I put in work to make sure I am improving my photography skills. Yes, I am happy with where I am at, but I want to be the photographer that real estate agents and home-sellers are wanting to showcase their listing.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
YouTube has always been the center of my creativity. I used to make YouTube content regularly starting at 9 years old. Now that I have stepped back from being the content creator, I look up to current creators for inspiration and entertainment. Another resource that I think is very important to do best in life, are mental health resources. Whether thats a self-help book, podcast, or therapy, I believe that mental hardships deserves to be recognized and cared for.
