Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurice F. Martin
Hi Maurice F., so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I think about my life story, I often remember the moments when I thought I was finally beginning to live my dream. I was making progress in my career as a musician, becoming more well-known, working with incredible producers and talented artists, and feeling like major success was just around the corner. But looking back, I remember climbing the ladder of ‘success’ while sinking on the inside. I was ‘winning’ professionally, yet secretly I was losing personally.
It wasn’t until much later that I realized how deeply our professional and personal lives are connected. The darkness I was battling inside began to leak into my professional life. I burned bridges, hurt people, and ultimately became someone I wasn’t proud of being. That’s when I hit rock bottom, and it was there that I had a profound turning point. In 2016, the year I was at my lowest, I was selling insurance—making the most money I’d ever made. But on the inside, I was the most depressed I’d ever been. I was living proof that you can win professionally yet lose personally. That experience pushed me to confront the darkness I’d been avoiding and set me on a journey of self-healing.
Before this, I had built a career in music, managing a band and working on licensing deals with MTV, VH1, and the Discovery Networks. I worked with Grammy winners, Emmy winners, and even Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. It was a time full of professional growth and learning, but personally, I was unraveling. The success I experienced wasn’t enough to mask the pain and emptiness I felt inside. I knew that I had to make a change—and that change began with healing.
In 2016, I experienced a divine encounter that shifted the course of my life forever. I knew I needed to heal, to grow, and to rebuild my life. I began to focus on transforming my mindset and overcoming the limiting beliefs that had held me back. The process wasn’t easy, but I committed to it. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to not just professional growth but personal healing as well. This journey of healing and transformation is what I now help others with.
As a motivational speaker and transformational coach, I’m passionate about helping leaders—whether established professionals or emerging talents—achieve not just success, but fulfillment. My work focuses on leadership development that integrates personal growth and professional achievement. I help others build healthy habits and behaviors that propel them forward, even when they don’t feel motivated. Leadership isn’t just about success on the outside; it’s about the inner transformation that allows you to thrive.
I don’t pretend to have it all figured out, and I don’t claim to be a finished product. I am a work in progress, and I try to inspire others to embrace their journey of constant growth and healing. My message is simple: Life isn’t just about winning on the outside. True success comes from healing the pain inside and creating sustainable, healthy habits that drive you forward, even when motivation wanes. That’s what I teach and what I live every day.
Now, I am a husband, father, and coach, living a life that’s fully grounded in continual transformation. I’m here to be a transparent guide, showing others that even in our darkest moments, there is hope for healing and growth. If you’re struggling with burnout, doubt, or confusion, you’re not alone. We all have setbacks, but it’s what we do after those setbacks that determines our true success.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road, but I often wonder if that isn’t the point. My grandmother always used to say, “Anything worth having in life is worth the struggle.” That’s been a foundational lesson for me. I’ve had a journey filled with obstacles and challenges, but I believe anyone with a dream, a mission, or a calling on their life is going to face struggles along the way. It’s part of the process.
When I first became a motivational speaker and a counselor, and even when I transitioned into becoming a coach and a published author, I wondered if I had anything valuable to share. I think that’s natural—we all doubt ourselves at times. Honestly, I still ask myself that question occasionally. But the beautiful thing is, I’ve learned that doubts and insecurities are part of being human. We all have them, no matter how successful we may seem on the outside.
What’s been incredible about my work is that it has taught me so much about myself. Through this journey, I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many people who’ve inspired me and shown me the power of leadership development through real, raw, and vulnerable connections. I’ve learned that being a true leader doesn’t mean pretending to have it all together. It means showing up with authenticity and helping others while continuing to grow through our own struggles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Total Harmony Leadership Solutions, I’m passionate about more than just inspiring individuals; I’m dedicated to guiding leaders toward sustained success through transformation, healing, and the development of lasting, healthy habits. As a motivational speaker, transformational coach, and leadership consultant, I help people from all walks of life—including business leaders, educators, and aspiring professionals—understand that true leadership isn’t just about a burst of motivation; it’s about creating the internal shifts and behaviors that lead to ongoing success.
It’s easy to be fired up after an inspiring talk or event, but the key to lasting achievement is building the healthy habits and behaviors that keep you moving forward, even when motivation fades. Leaders who have experienced sustained success know that it’s not motivation alone that propels them—it’s the consistent actions and mindset shifts they implement daily, even in times of adversity. That’s why I focus on transformation at its core, not just quick fixes.
Leadership Development and the Power of Healing
One of the most important concepts I bring into my work is the idea that leaders need to heal. In today’s world, it’s not always easy to admit when a leader is hurt, but healing is a critical part of personal and professional growth. Every leader, no matter how successful, faces setbacks, disappointments, and losses—whether in business, relationships, or personal health. We live in a society that often ignores this truth, yet it’s vital for leaders to acknowledge and address their pain in order to move forward with strength and clarity.
This is not a message that is always embraced by traditional leadership circles, but I believe it’s a necessary one. Healing isn’t just about moving past challenges—it’s about addressing them head-on and using those experiences to become a more resilient, compassionate, and effective leader. As a transformational speaker, I share stories and strategies that help leaders recognize when it’s time to heal and how to use that healing process as a stepping stone toward greater success and fulfillment.
Overcoming Burnout Through Sustainable Habits
Another critical area I address in my talks and coaching is burnout. Far too often, leaders push themselves to the brink without realizing the toll they are taking on their mental, physical, and emotional health. Burnout is a serious issue, but it doesn’t have to be inevitable. By focusing on transformational coaching, I teach leaders how to recognize the early signs of burnout and implement practical solutions to prevent it. The key is not in avoiding hard work, but in building healthy routines and adopting mindsets that allow you to sustain your efforts over the long term.
Healing and Transformation: A Leadership Journey
When you look at the greatest leaders of all time—whether in business, sports, or politics—they didn’t reach their pinnacle by running on empty. They overcame personal challenges, setbacks, and even deep emotional wounds to step into their greatest potential. It’s a journey that requires healing, self-awareness, and the courage to face the parts of yourself that may have been holding you back.
Through my motivational speaking engagements, I help leaders understand that this journey of healing and transformation isn’t only about overcoming the external challenges. It’s about cultivating the inner strength to face life’s difficulties head-on, knowing that every obstacle is an opportunity to grow and become a better version of yourself.
Building Lasting Impact for the Future
Whether I’m speaking to future leaders in youth organizations or seasoned professionals in corporate settings, my approach remains the same: leadership is about growth, resilience, and transformation. I believe that leaders of all ages and experience levels can benefit from learning how to implement healthy behaviors and transformative habits that will sustain them throughout their careers and personal lives.
Leadership development isn’t just for the here and now—it’s about preparing for the future. That’s why I’m also deeply committed to working with youth leadership programs and schools, helping young people understand the importance of personal growth and resilience as they prepare to take on leadership roles in their communities and beyond.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, at Total Harmony Leadership Solutions, I focus on creating lasting change that goes beyond motivation. While motivation can be powerful, transformation is what keeps you going when the enthusiasm wears off. Whether through keynote speaking, workshops, or one-on-one coaching, my goal is to empower leaders to achieve sustained success by healing from their past wounds, building healthy habits, and embracing the personal growth necessary to reach their full potential.
No one’s journey to success is free from setbacks, but through transformational coaching and leadership development, you can overcome these challenges and continue moving forward with clarity, strength, and purpose.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a kid, I was always the talkative dreamer, with my head firmly in the clouds. My favorite mantra back then was, “Dare to dream.” But honestly, I never saw myself becoming a motivational speaker. Back then, I was convinced I’d spend my entire life as a musician. Music gave me life from an early age—it was my escape and my way of coping with the world around me. I love the Maya Angelou quote, “Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.” That was me to the core.
Growing up, there were some tough moments at home. I won’t dive into every detail here, but I’ve opened up about it in my book, Your But Is Too Big. There was abuse in my house, and as a child, I hid a lot of pain behind jokes and laughter. Outwardly, I seemed fine—happy, carefree—but inwardly, I was anxious, overwhelmed, and even depressed at times. I share this not to dwell on the past but to help people understand what fuels my passion as a motivational speaker. I know firsthand what it’s like to wear a mask of confidence while wrestling with secret struggles.
For years, I thought I could achieve my way to happiness—that if I worked hard enough, success would fix everything. But I learned the hard way that joy, peace, and self-worth don’t come from accomplishments. Don’t get me wrong; I’m still a firm believer in working hard and giving your purpose everything you’ve got. But if I could go back and talk to young Maurice, I’d tell him this: “You are already great. You are already amazing, valuable, and loved—just as you are.”
This realization changed my life, and it’s why I stand on stages today as a motivational speaker, sharing my story. My mission is to remind others that they don’t have to earn love or prove their worth. Whether I’m speaking to young people or seasoned leaders, my message is the same: true greatness begins when we see our inherent value and step into it with courage and authenticity.
