Hi Marissa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, I’m Marissa!
I grew up in a small town in Upstate New York but moved to Cincinnati in early 2017 to expand my horizons and explore new career opportunities. That same year, I met my now-husband, Adam, and in 2021, we got married. Since then, we’ve been building a life together here, and I couldn’t be happier.
I’ve always been passionate about pushing my limits and experiencing new things. With a background in accounting, I spent over eight years in the corporate tax field. But deep down, I knew I was meant for something different—entrepreneurship had always been a dream, though I wasn’t sure when or how it would come to life.
In 2023, shortly after stepping into a new senior tax accountant role, I had a defining moment. I remember driving to work one morning when it hit me: Start a bookkeeping business! Funny enough, some friends had suggested the idea just a few months before, but at the time, it didn’t stick. That day, I spent about 20 minutes researching and discovered a support program that guided me step by step through launching my own bookkeeping business. I knew this was my path.
I made the bold decision to fully commit to replacing my comfortable six-figure corporate salary with my own business and spent the next 11 months simultaneously growing my business while juggling a full-time employment. On August 1, 2024, I officially left my full-time job, stepping into the world of entrepreneurship with excitement and determination. Since then, I’ve been growing my client base, expanding my skills as a business owner, and discovering the incredible fulfillment that comes from pursuing my passion on my own terms.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been realizing that success isn’t just personal—it creates opportunities to help others. The more I grow, the more I can give back, and that’s something I’m deeply excited about.
Looking ahead to the rest of 2025, I have some ambitious goals, including growing a team so I can step into a higher-level leadership role, expanding through strategic partnerships, and exploring passive income opportunities to scale my business to new heights. With the support of a dedicated business mentor, I feel more encouraged and motivated than ever.
Helping small businesses with accurate bookkeeping solutions has been the most fulfilling part of this journey, and I’m looking forward to everything this year has in store!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle has definitely been maintaining a strong positive mindset at times. There are several factors that I’ve found can contribute to a negative outlook so it’s important to work that “mental muscle” by having go-to practices to stay in a supportive and optimistic headspace. Developing stronger discipline, tenacity and determination when things take more effort and focus has been another challenging part of this journey.
