Meet Mara Kore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mara Kore.

Hi Mara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was a young teen and discovering the wonders of the internet, I found a website called BME. I spent hours scrolling through posts, pictures, and stories of what people had done to modify their bodies. I saw everything from basic ear piercings to complex and surgical body modifications. Seeing how people had taken every aspect of their bodies and appearances into their own control was so inspiring to me. I dove deeper into learning about body modification and absolutely loved it. I got my first piercing at 15 years old, and I was hooked. I started planning my next piercing, learning the processes, and dreaming about my future “look.” I got my first tattoo at 17, and my desire to make this flesh vessel truly mine only grew from there. I knew I wanted to be involved in the body modification industry from that point on. By 25 my modification “addiction” became obvious, and by 27 I was making all the changes I wanted to see in myself. At the time of this interview, I am 29 and have begun building an empire with those that love and support me. I now have a successful career in the piercing industry and a growing local interest in my upcoming body suspension team. I could not be more grateful for the opportunities I’ve had that have helped me get to where I am now.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been an interesting journey, that’s for sure. I wouldn’t say it’s been the smoothest, but it hasn’t been a treacherous climb either. I’ve met a lot of good people that want to see me succeed and a lot of people that want to tear me down because I don’t fit in the shoebox of “normal.”

There have been a lot of people that have inspired me along the way, and my journey is nowhere near complete, so I’m constantly learning and trying new things, improving myself, and learning how to push my own limits, and I am so thankful for that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a body piercer, modification artist, and the founder of a body suspension team. I specialize mostly in doing things those other piercers have said are not possible. I take that impossibility, throw it in the trash, and make it a reality.

My biggest joy is when I’m able to give someone the piercing they envisioned, and they find themselves more comfortable and confident. I love helping people be more comfortable in their skin and make it their own.

I’m definitely a little bit different than a lot of other people. In my city, I’m probably the most modified person, so I get a lot of funny looks sometimes, but I’ve also been told I’m one of the kindest and gentlest people to work with, which is such a wonderful thing to hear.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can always contact me on my Instagram, come get some work done by me, or recommend me to people if they’re happy with my work. I love doing custom projects for people and thoroughly enjoy planning out and making something “wild” into something beautiful. I’m starting a body suspension team, and it would be awesome to see some new faces and introduce people to the world of suspension because it is truly an entirely different world and experience.
