Meet Madisen Stiverson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madisen Stiverson.

Madisen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From a young age, I always had a strong love and appreciation for all things beauty. After high school when it was time to choose a career path – I was set on going to Cosmetology school but my family encouraged me to go to a traditional 4 Year College first to obtain a degree. Although I had an amazing two years in college, met my husband, and made lifelong friends – I knew my heart wasn’t in it. I had changed my major multiple times only to consistently feel like something was missing and after my sophomore year, I knew it was time to declare a major. I then decided it was time to take a year and go to Cosmetology school as I had always wanted. Once I was there, it all clicked and I knew I was doing what I was meant to. After graduating in 2010, I started working in a full-service salon owned by my Mother-in-law where I helped with managing our Spa, booking Spa and Bridal parties, and offering everything from hair to nails, to makeup and even massage.

I ended up building a full clientele in Nails where I focused most of my time but my biggest passion was always in makeup. Headed into 2018 I decided to begin my journey into the Permanent Makeup World and this is when I truly found my niche in the industry. I have now done extensive training in Permanent Brow techniques and Lip Blushing and I have also become an Educator for a well-known international company (Everlasting Brows). I was able to open my studio (Glow Studio Beauty Lounge) in June of 2021 and it has been extremely rewarding and everything I hoped for. I absolutely love my job and never feel like I am actually working. I take great pride in my work and love that I can help women feel more beautiful. I believe self-care is important in every aspect of life and no one should ever feel guilty for taking care of themselves or doing something for themselves that makes them feel good.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road but I will say I have been very fortunate in my career. Working for my mother-in-law allowed me many opportunities that I think some would not otherwise have. Building a clientele and getting busy is the biggest challenge in this industry but I think if you truly love what you’re doing – you will succeed. Permanent Makeup is a skill that can be very challenging and also humbling – it takes LOTS of practice, the right education, patience, and grace.

You have to be persistent to become consistent. I really feel like it took me almost 2 years until I felt that I was consistent as an artist. At that point, I was seeing good retention and healed results coming back from each client. It takes time and experience, learning what techniques to do on different skin types, trying new products, expanding your knowledge, and a lot of trial and error. I am not one to give up and I love to learn so I am constantly taking classes to help advance and challenge my skill.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in Permanent Makeup, particularly Brows and Lips. I offer services such as Microblading, Combo Brows, Powder or Ombre Brows, and Lip Blushing. I also offer brow waxing and shaping and brow henna. Not everyone is a good candidate for permanent makeup so it’s nice to offer other options for those clients. I will also work with clients on teaching them how to fill their brows in at home with makeup – anything I can do to make someone’s life or beauty routine easier!

To date – I am most known for Brows and this is one of my most requested services but I am also currently loving lips and cannot wait to grow in that service as well. What I am most proud of is that I have built a successful small business. I am also so proud to see the growth I have achieved in this industry in a short time. Too often we as artists are always comparing ourselves to others and we don’t give ourselves grace. I myself am a wife and mother to 2 daughters ages 6 and 7.

While my business is a huge priority in my life – my family always comes first. I am so blessed to have built a business where I can also be present for my family. I love that I can maintain a healthy balance in both aspects of my life but also fulfill my passion.

How do you define success?
I personally define success by how you feel internally, and gratification in meeting personal goals you have set for yourself. There is so much pressure in today’s world where people define success on how many likes, views, followers, or money you have. In my opinion – constantly seeking approval from others will always leave you wanting more and it will never be enough. Now, this doesn’t mean I don’t believe in setting goals or pushing yourself to want more.

It absolutely feels good when you see others sharing your work, liking your work, and praising you. I feel if you are truly passionate about what you are doing, you are always striving to do your best, you are busy and making a living doing it – you are successful and you should be proud! Shoot for the moon but also take a moment to soak it in and see how far you’ve already come!
