Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddie Indré.
Hi Maddie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up around music. My mom sings and she put me and my brother Angelo in piano lessons when we were little. I was always singing around the house. I was exposed to all kinds of music, it was great! In high school, I started playing guitar. Once I could get through three songs, I went to this open mic at a cool coffee shop called Kavé. I started going there every week and saw everyone there was writing their own songs, so I figured I should try to do that too! It turned out to be a really nice outlet for me. I really enjoyed it too! Eventually, high school ended and I tried college. I went to Kent State and pursued a degree in Public Relations thinking maybe I could do something in the music industry from a business perspective. I dropped out shortly after. I was skipping class to write songs and just wasting money so I figured I would try to record an album instead! I met Ron Flack at RealGrey Records, and I had a great experience recording a couple of albums there. I had also started to book my own gigs and I was going by my last name Indré. Eventually, I thought a band would be WAY more fun, so I asked my brother Angelo if he would want to join forces. He said yeah sis. So, then we skipped merrily around the house. We later met Sam Merendino (drummer), TJ May (bassist). and Josie Holskey (merch queen). We are one big happy band fam, and this past year has been incredible. We have started touring, and we are recording the 3rd album together. Life is good.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think there is such a thing as a smooth road. We have had a lot of luck regarding great opportunities. However, we hit obstacles every now and then like any project. I think every independent musician or band finds the same struggles with the way the industry has changed. It is easy to get discouraged. During these moments, I just try to remember why I started and what is exciting about it. There is a lot to be excited about!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Indré is a band of friends eager to bring you a show. Formed in Northeast Ohio, Indré’s sonically satisfying blend of influences can be heard in their unique sound. Their relatable songs and lively on-stage spirit will pull any audience member into their “Band Fam”. Indré is a band to watch this year with exciting releases and announcements on the horizon.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I try to think optimistically. I see artists being fairly compensated in the future for their work. As of now, it just isn’t sustainable. However, music will never die so something has to change!
