Meet Lucas Osborne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Osborne.

Hi Lucas, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
It’s kinda a funny story about how I found my passion for videography and photography. It sorts of started when I was in 8th grade…I used to like taking photos of the places I traveled to and posting them on Instagram for my friends to see. If I’m being honest, though, the spark for my passion was not truly found until my sophomore year of high school. It all started when I was on the JV Basketball team for my high school. I was close friends with everyone on the Varsity team, and I thought that it was cool how they would have someone record each of their games for them to review the next practice. I really wasn’t the one to record the games, but I knew where the footage was being uploaded to. To break it down, I would take my iPhone, screen record the uploaded footage of the games, and then make funny videos of the players on the team after just about every game. After that, I would share them in the team group chat and everyone thought that they were the funniest videos in the world. The vids were funny because of how personal they were…I would use different songs, photos from movies, and just whatever random stuff I could come up with to make myself and the team laugh. I just enjoyed seeing the reactions of my friends and teammates, so I kept making them. I really didn’t have any purpose other than that I was having fun, and I was making others laugh until one practice, my teammate Dylan Herbert made me realize something. He told me that if I didn’t take this “video stuff” seriously that he’d be upset. He saw a future in me that I didn’t even realize until that moment, and I’ll never forget that conversation. Fast forward to the summer of 2019…my family was about to go on a road trip out west to travel through parts of Arizona, Utah, and Nevada. At the time, I still didn’t have a camera, but I was feeling more and more interested in the idea. Anyway, I told my parents that we should get a family camera for the trip to capture our memories and I said that next school year I could use it for photography class. My family bought the Cannon T7, and I ended up loving how the photos turned out…I ended up making a travel recap video of the trip all on my iPhone too. My passion began to grow for photography and videography…no one in my family before has ever been into cameras and stuff like that before me so it felt weird at first for me to say I wanted to take the photography class at my school. I ended up taking the class, and to be honest…I didn’t love it at first. It just felt weird, I don’t know if it was the way it was taught or if it was because the kids in the class made fun of my photos and videos, but I didn’t see a future in it for me. As time went on, I began to notice that God has given me a gift. With little to no knowledge about what I was getting myself into, I saw that my photos and videos were beginning to turn out better than my classmates around me (I’m not bragging, I’m just being honest). Then BOOM, Covid 19 hits, and my junior year was cut short. Although we couldn’t come to the school for class, we still had online tasks for the photography class. So, I continued with my camera, but this time I was interested enough to learn more from YouTube than my teacher. As summer 2020 continued, I asked my parents for a DJI Mavic Mini Drone for my 18th birthday…, and they got it for me. I was always fascinated by drones, and I always wanted one. Throughout the summer and into 2021, I loved to drive around nearby places to see what kind of creative videos and photos I could capture from the sky. As time continued, I began to notice that I truly enjoyed what I was doing, so I began to create more and more videos with my iPhone and drone. By the end of my senior year, I knew a decent amount about what I wanted to do…I just didn’t know if would be possible; all I knew was that I enjoyed it and that’s all that mattered to me. Summer of 2021, my family decided to do another trip out to the west (Utah and Colorado). This time I knew I wanted to do something new. I decided to film everything and create my first ever travel vlog. I absolutely loved the process of filming and editing the video, and I was so proud of myself when I completed it! I had so much joy that I knew I needed to buy a better video camera and take this more seriously. In mid-August of 2021, I made the biggest decision of my life and purchased a very expensive camera. It was an investment to me, but my family saw it as a very risky decision. It pretty much cost me all the money that I made working at the Zoo all summer, so in reality, it was a risky purchase but I knew I could make it work. As time went on, I began to have random people ask me to make their videos, so I did, and then I ended up filming every single one of my brother’s basketball games for his senior year. I ended up creating a new Instagram account just for the sports side of my content and named it “Louie Hoops.” The name came from again the basketball team back in my sophomore year…I don’t know who exactly nicknamed me that, but it’s stuck ever since, and I always got a kick out of it, so I decided to keep it around. Anyway, I began to get more and more clients, and my passion continued to grow and grow, so now I can comfortably say that I want to continue doing what I’m doing. I love capturing the moment and expressing the memories through emotion in my videos/photos. I just have so much fun filming and editing that I would love to make it my full-time “job.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I can create pretty much any video that I’m asked upon… I feel that I am an extremely creative person, always thinking outside the box. I’d say that I specialize in video, but I love to do photos too and some graphic design. I’d say I’m most proud of how far I’ve come and how quickly I’ve been able to do it. I thank God every day for blessing me with my talents!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The happiness I receive from creating something that can motivate or move others forward. I like to pay attention to the little things in life, and when I capture a moment and can create a memory for another/myself…it means the world to me.
