Meet Loïc BISTOQUET

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loïc BISTOQUET.

Hi Loïc, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hello Jessica, my name is Loïc Bistoquet; I am from Guadeloupe, a small French island in the Caribbean.

I am director of a music label WAPTOR MUSIC, and since November 2022, I am a program Director at WAPTOR MUSIC FM

I am also an author-Compositor member of SACEM, company that manage copyrights in France.

I started to get interested in musical creation late.

I think I was attracted by this game of mixing sounds.

Indeed,

I started frequenting a local radio station after winning a mix contest. I was approximately 17 years old. It was much later, around 20 years old, that I started creating my own samples and creating beats on computer.

Naturally, the desire to record myself came to me, and I am start to work.

Like many young people of my generation on this island, it was the advent of cable television, and BET come with music by the way.

That boosted this quest for musical research. I was immediately drawn to Hip-Hop and R&B culture.

I’m an artist who works a lot with vibration, and like a DJ, I play with notes, words, melodies…That helps me to work on any kind of music…

I had the opportunity to assist professionals of all types in local music circles.

My computer knowledge allowed me to facilitate our exchanges with the help of digital technologies because this period was that of the explosion of accessible digital technology.

My meeting with the excellent Jean Marc Congré, called MAD JMC, is a very good example of this experience.

He passed on some of his knowledge to me while I taught him how to use the computer…

He taught me a lot about Reggae, this style which was his favorite style.

We have created several titles, but the one that is closest to my heart is “An Amazing Sunshine” because it is me in my simplicity, and I speak to the world…

But we also had the opportunity to work on Hip-Hop titles such as the title Naza Step which I introduced on the album METASTASIS*

experiencing some difficulties in reaching the airwaves, and at the same time taking advantage of an opportunity, I decided in 2014 to set up my label in London.

This company created; I started some research to find a BeatMaker.

It was then that I met and sign Mehdi Moussaoui from Casablanca in Morocco. He carried the nickname of MD BASSLINER.

We start to work together like telecommuting and start to work of some single I choose to release.

Quickly our network start to grow, and he put me in touch with Eddie Bunzy (K-Waz The Lyrical Psycho), That I was met at his house. I spent two and a half months there, where I met talented artists from LA, such as Tip Toe (Yung Tip) Wayne G, Wayne Id, Captain Is Cool, BFly, Otherwize, Lil Whit… I would like to thank them all for their hospitality.

On my return to Guadeloupe, Mehdi tells me this catastrophic news. He is awaiting colorectal cancer and undergoing treatment. Mehdi left some month after my back from USA.

Before he died, we had started a project that I had to speed up so he could enjoy it a bit. Moreover, this project bears the name METASTASIS as he had wished.

It’s a compilation of with some of our Instrumental creations, but also titles with some artists from the United States following my trip to Los Angeles in California in 2016.

After Mehdi, I lost another close friend of mine. And not least, MAD JMC, with whom I had spent the most beautiful moments in this musical life.

After these heavy losses in my profession, I lost my mentor, my father the 12 of January 2023, then my son a year later at the age of 17.

I really have what to be devastated, but I had the chance to meet great people through my exchanges on the networks.

In November 2022, Miss Peggy Osborne Rice introduced me to Senior Gee, who motivated me by inviting me to join their Radio Village concepts.

It was then that I created WAPTOR MUSIC FM and embarked on this new adventure as Program Director, and now I meet you…

Sorry for my broken English, and thank you, translator…

Bye Bye

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
A feeling of rejection or no support from some of my community

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I haven’t lot of experience of the scene as an artist, I prefer to work in the shadows, but if the opportunity arises, I go up.

I am so proud of the way I choose. That take me a lot, but look where I am now with my own Radio Station.

I am also proud of me cause I have make a lot by myself.

I think I can do a little difference cause I think that I can swing on any kind of music

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I have lose all when I choose to give my time at these artwork. I think that is a big risk I taked. That of lose some friends and family.
