Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Davey.
Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In 2012 I was diagnosed with Asthma. After many tests to determine what triggered asthma attacks, it was determined that cleaning products, scented candles, perfumes, etc. along with many other products containing fragrance oils were the cause of my breathing problems.
I began researching alternative products to use in our home and on our body to relieve the asthma problems I was having.
I was introduced to essential oils, and that is where the journey began.
I started researching pure essential oils to use and then began finding ways to create everyday products with natural ingredients that my husband & I use…
After making soap, body butter lotion, deodorant, and many other products, I decided to share with friends and family.
Everyone was asking for more when they used up what they received.
Soon they were ordering for gifts.
Slowly the orders began to grow, and Daisy Cottage was born.
Daisy Cottage is still a one-woman business that I run myself.
From my website to selling in small businesses in the area, we are growing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any small business, you have bumps along the way. When I decided to start growing this business, I knew it would not always be easy.
There have been a few struggles along the way.
Some of my products were not selling.
It takes time to figure out what the consumer wants and what I think might sell others are not that interested in buying.
I have learned to pivot and find what consumers are buying at the time.
I do find that when I hit a bump in the road that it is ok, and it is a learning experience.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work these days consists of making the products for orders and the businesses I sell in. Keeping track of the administrative part of things.
Ordering packaging and ingredients from reputable companies which take time to research for products.
Researching and testing recipes for products.
Evaluating what sells and streamlining our product line.
I craft all products by hand.
I especially love the soap-making process because that is where the creativity comes in.
I am always researching methods to reveal the outcome design when I slice the soap bars.
Each bar is unique, and the pattern is never repeated.
I specialize in organic & vegan products with natural ingredients and choose containers that do not have chemicals containing toxins.
Owning my own business is very humbling.
I realize the consumer today is looking for wholesome products for their family.
I know the products work and have greatly improved my life where asthma is concerned.
Knowing people are buying my products for health reasons or just because they want less exposure to toxins makes me happy to be that part of their life.
