Meet Laurel Vines of Cincinnati Metro Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurel Vines

Hi Laurel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve had a passion for design and creative marketing since I was a teen. My mom was an entrepreneur and would have me help her by creating graphics for her small businesses. Soon I was doing all kinds of projects for friends and family, but I never fully pursued a career in design, thinking I couldn’t make a go of it. I ended up working in dental for several years, but I still did design and marketing for non-profits and friends and family on the side.

In 2020, my husband and I were newlyweds, and decided that since I was laid off from my job anyway, now would be the time to travel the country and full time RV like we’d been dreaming about. We started off workamping – working at campsites and RV parks in exchange for a free spot and a small wage. It was lots of fun and we met so many cool people. Mid way through our year and a half on the road, I decided to start freelancing again, but this time I put my all into it. I started taking jobs as a creative VA while a brushed up on my design skills, and when we moved back to the Cincinnati area, I had enough clients to keep going full time while we got established. I eventually niched into what I love best – brand and web design and organic traffic growth.

Fast forward 2.5 years, and I’ve gotten to work with clients locally and around the globe to establish their brand and website, grow their audience with Pinterest and SEO, and have the freedom to continue to work anywhere!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Hardly! There were many times I went through slow seasons, started to question everything, and got so discouraged I thought about quitting and going back to my 9 – 5. During those times, I reminded myself of my “why”. My “why” is that this business lights me up, makes me feel like I’m actually making a difference in the world, and allows me the freedom to put my life and personal values ahead of simply “career goals”.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a brand and web designer and I specialize in helping creative business owners establish a brand that’s authentic, feels like them, and that works for them 24/7. I also offer SEO and Pinterest marketing services to help my clients grow their online audience through sustainable marketing strategies that take less of their time and bring more aligned potential leads to their digital doorstep. I believe that your branding and website should do more than just “look good” they should be an integral part of your marketing strategy and constantly be working alongside your content strategy to bring in new leads.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see more people shifting into “slow marketing” or what some people call “cozy marketing” in the online space. Social media has many of us burnt out and disillusioned from what being a creative entrepreneur would be like. We envisioned creative brainstorming sessions where we operate in our zone of genius – not dancing in front of our phones for a few likes. I see creating content for search based platforms growing, and some creators choosing to let go of social entirely to aid in their balance and better mental health.
