Today we’d like to introduce you to La’Quisa Richardson.
Hi La’Quisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My name is La’Quisa Richardson. I am the Chief Education Officer and Founder of Ace Community House. Ace Community House is a love-based 501c3 organization in Central Ohio created to advocate, connect, and empower families. Ace Community House provides supportive services to the community using trauma-informed approaches to care. We specialize in health education, civic engagement, and family advocacy.
I am a Columbus, Ohio, native raised in a single-parent home in the South Linden area. I am now the mother of three adult children, but I have a host of God-given children, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family is what drives me, so I never miss a chance to spend quality time with my loved ones; I enjoy traveling, serving my community, and learning new things. My passionate commitment to family and my love for others are rooted in my Faith. As a minister and servant leader, I believe I am called to bridge the gaps vulnerable populations face in the healthcare system and to decrease barriers for impacted families forced to navigate multi-systems.
With over 20 years in social services, I am well-versed on the needs of the community and the impact of offering opportunities, resources, and education to youth. Ace Community House was created in response to seeing my community struggle with unmet needs. My goal is simple. I aim to improve the lives of those around me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say the ride has been a rollercoaster. My journey to get to where I am today has been full of hope, fear, tears, resilience, determination, community, and love. Some days felt like the end of the world, others felt like a new birthing of myself. Smooth, No. Satisfying? Yes! I’m still on a journey. I think I always will be.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
Ace currently offers a variety of trainings and health lessons, including violence prevention, Community Health Worker training cohort, CPR/First Aid, CPR instructor course, First Aid mental health, Red Cross certified babysitting training, parenting class, safe sleep instruction, safety ambassador cohort, and Covid-19 prevention.
Ace specializes in youth behavioral health assessments, social injustice, family advocacy, and mentorship.
Ace also offers supportive services to assist families in need as they navigate through multi systems.
What sets Ace apart from other organizations is the fact that we have the heart, the will, the resources, and the relationship with the community to leave a positive impact on our families. We are a trusted brand built by being boots on the ground and advocating for our clients as if they were our own family.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for finding a mentor would be to first educate yourself on the beliefs and operations of the individual or organization to be sure they align with your own beliefs. My advice for networking is similar, but also would be to extend yourself outside of your typical social circle.
