Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Finnegan.
Hi Kelli, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I worked in a few woman owned small businesses around Cleveland and I loved the drive and challenges that a small business environment brings, I knew I wanted to start my own but wasn’t sure what avenue this would take. This all changed in 2020. I had just moved into a new home with my partner and my responsibility was the outside. Taking my new task seriously I ripped all the landscaping out and started over. A few friends in the neighborhood who saw my newly landscaped yard in full bloom requested I come give their yard a little glow up. my once passion project / new homeowner task became a career. With the stress of current events I found comfort in nature while everything else around me felt so unsettled.
From that first yard, I continued to get requests. As I began to formalize this as a business, I did not lose sight of the politically driven environment that surrounded me. I wanted the name to make it clear, I am a queer-owned and operated company. I wanted people to know who they were supporting when they hired Lez-B Landscaping. I am truly grateful for this community and how quickly it supports and embraces small business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The main struggle I have is wanting to do everything all at once and trying to really find a work/life balance. Taking time to relax and reset after a larger job or just stopping to make sure I also enjoy all the fun Cleveland summers have to offer.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
None of this would be possible without the support of family and friends. From pep talks, never-ending encouragement, recommendations for jobs, and finical advice, they make it all possible. I do often say and believe it takes a village, and I honestly know I can’t be who I am and do all that I do without the community of people that love and support me…. even when I’m covered in dirt and smell like mulch.
I know I am beyond lucky, and I try to never take that for granted.
