Meet K. Micah Maupin of Yellow Ribbon Real Estate

Today we’d like to introduce you to K. Micah Maupin

Hi K. Micah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Back in 2012, a good friend and I decided to venture into the business of fixing up houses and selling them. It was a challenging time to start, as the market was still recovering from the 2008 crash. We had a handful of properties listed with a real estate agent, and one day, he asked if I had ever considered becoming an agent myself. At first, I didn’t think much of it, but after giving it some thought, I realized it would be a valuable step—helping me build stronger relationships, gain firsthand experience, and improve the overall quality of the process.

After getting my real estate license, I began my career at Keller Williams. Over time, I worked with a few different offices before ultimately making the move to TREO Realtors. I’ve now been with TREO for the past ten years, and it has been an incredible experience. The brokerage is a tight-knit, supportive community—a place where everyone lifts each other up. I consider myself fortunate to be part of such a strong and collaborative team.

Beyond real estate, I serve as a board member for two 501(c)(3) organizations: The Yellow Ribbon Support Foundation and Racing4Vets.

The Yellow Ribbon Support Center is dedicated to building relationships with active-duty military members by sending care packages overseas. The organization was started by my parents when my brother Matt Maupin was captured in Iraq in 2004 while on deployment. His remains were found in 2008, but we continue the mission to this day. The foundation also hosts an annual Let Us Never Forget fundraiser dinner in April, this year on the 12th, to honor fallen soldiers from the tri-state area. At the event, we read their names aloud to ensure they are never forgotten. The proceeds help fund post-secondary scholarships for students in the local community. To date, we have sent over 80,000 care packages and raised more than $800,000 in scholarships.

Racing4Vets focuses on supporting veterans who are struggling with addiction, substance abuse, or other challenges. Our mission is to provide them with a sense of purpose through motorsports; whether that’s driving, working on the vehicles, or volunteering in a supportive role. By engaging in the world of racing, veterans develop skills they can apply in the workforce, such as problem-solving, mechanics, instruction, and leadership. More importantly, we foster a strong support network, ensuring that when times get tough, veterans have someone to call.

Being involved in both of these organizations is an honor, and real estate provides me with the flexibility to contribute my time and effort to their missions.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always challenges along the way. In real estate, it often feels like a roller coaster full of highs and lows. We strive to provide exceptional service, often investing significant time and money to ensure the best possible experience for our clients. But the reality is that sometimes, despite our best efforts, things don’t go as planned.

Being a real estate agent means being an entrepreneur. In the beginning, you wear every hat, handling sales, marketing, relationship-building, prospecting, accounting, budgeting, and everything in between. There is a steep learning curve when starting any business, and the same goes for getting involved in a nonprofit organization. But once you gain experience and establish a solid foundation, the day-to-day operations become much more manageable.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the heart of everything I do, whether in real estate, supporting veterans, or helping military families, there is a deep sense of responsibility to serve. I help people build the next chapter of their lives. Whether it’s finding the perfect home for a growing family, helping someone invest in their future, or guiding a seller through a major transition, I make sure they feel confident, supported, and empowered throughout the process. My background as a Marine instilled in me the discipline, integrity, and perseverance that guide my business today. I believe in leading with authenticity, using innovation to work smarter, and always striving to be a contribution to my community. Real estate gives me the flexibility to do what I love, which is helping people, making connections, and ensuring that no one is left without support when they need it most. My approach is low pressure. I’m not here to make anybody do anything. I’m only here to help them understand why they want to do it and guide them in that direction in the best possible way.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a typical boy who loved being outside, riding my bike, playing video games, and competing in sports. Soccer was a big part of my childhood, and I played it throughout my youth. In middle school, I took up wrestling, and it turned out I was really good at it. I wrestled all the way through high school and even made it to the state tournament.

If you asked people what I was like back then, they would probably say I was friendly, quiet, and sometimes funny. I was a pretty skinny kid, but I loved sports, especially wrestling and soccer. I also tried track and gave football a shot, but football wasn’t for me. Academically, I was a good student, though I wasn’t great at keeping my room clean.

During the summer, I took care of the yard, mowing the grass and handling small repairs around the house. If something needed fixing, I was the kind of kid who would figure it out. I remember replacing several electrical outlets, painting rooms, and even doing some flooring work. I’ve always felt like a creative person. Once, when we had a little extra money, I decided to transform my bedroom into something unique. I picked out a dark green carpet, painted the walls a deep navy blue, and used glow-in-the-dark paint to create constellations across the walls and ceiling. It felt like sleeping under the stars, and I loved every bit of it.
