Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Condit.
Hi Joe, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After graduating from Miami University (Ohio) I took a position with Cintas Corp. where I was thoroughly trained and disciplined. Little did I know those skills would carry over when one year later I started my first company. It was a tech platform (.com) where college students could bid on the most desirable houses to rent on their college campus. It was called Campus1Housing.com and then we grew national rebranding it to LiveByCampus.com. After exiting from that company, I then went on to found The Condit Group, LLC where I invested/founded companies in PR and media/talent agency/foodservice/precious metals, and more.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. In fact, I tell any aspiring entrepreneur when you begin something, it is NEVER going to become or go exactly as planned. You have to be mentally prepared to fail and it is those who figure out how to overcome the pitfalls and obstacles that become successful in the end.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Condit Group, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Condit Group is an umbrella company to multiple companies in various industries. Created by the founder, Joe Condit, in 2011, the group’s focus is to invest in sustainable companies whose mission is to make the world a better place and solve industry problems. Examples of this and to highlight the portfolio companies include:
FoodSweep
FoodSweep has solved the COGs problem that has plagued the restaurant industry since modern food distribution came into existence. Since 2009, FoodSweep has helped restauranteurs save on average 8% toward their cost of goods. Today FoodSweep represents almost $500M in food spend with broadline food distribution when you combine its total client portfolio.
Texas Precious Metals
TCG was an early investor in Texas Precious Metals which grew to change the industry in the way precious metals was shipped and delivered. UPS, USA Today, and many other national publications wrote articles touting the amazing achievements TPM accomplished since 2009. The company’s policies, branding, customer service, and guaranteed shipping within an exact timeframe set the company apart from its competition and changed the industry forever. Today the company has set the standard for gold and silver trade as well as grown to one of the largest gold and silver dealers in the country.
Catholic Speakers Organization
Condit founded this talent agency in 2006, which for the first time in the Catholic arena, offered a streamlined tech platform where event organizers could book faith-based motivational speakers and bands for any event. The organization today is the largest Catholic-focused talent agency in the world, representing over 400 motivational speakers and bands.
Silverback Homes
TCG invested in this real estate development company in 2014. The focus to enhance small farm towns to offer sustainable costs of living with modern technology and amenities. Improving the way of life for the hard-working small towns in America.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
ABSOLUTELY! The shining example of this would be our talent agency, Catholic Speakers Organization, where we had LITERALLY 100% of our public speaking events cancel in 2020. An unprecedented and unforeseen occurrence, we had to pivot and learn how to execute and produce online events. We now have become one of the most trusted and reliable online event creators and producers in the faith-based and non-profit world for anyone looking to host or put on an online event.
