Meet Jessica Volciak of Cincinnati

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Volciak

Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a physical therapist who own a successful small practice in Cincinnati, Ohio. I had no intentions or interest in being business owner. I just wanted to work and help people, then go home. When I graduated school I had two part time jobs. One was a mentorship in a small practice, the other was working in outpatient hospital-based clinic.

Unfortunately these jobs were not satisfying my need to help people — the way that I wanted to help them. Despite doing the best I could there was a lot of pressure. Insurance at the clinic always limited the quality treatment time I had with people due to ‘productivity’ standards. Then Covid hit the small practice I was working at and both jobs fell through as a new grad.

Even in healthcare… no job was secure. So I took matters into my own hands and started my business: Bene Physical Therapy!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every entrepreneur knows that owning a business is no smooth road. I still had bills to pay with no stable income. So I would work nights, weekends, early mornings; late nights. I traveled across state lines to stay busy and help whoever I could to stay busy. This meant time away from my boyfriend, who I just got back living with after doing 2 years of long distance during school.

Working with adult athletes is my passion! So I gained a lot of respect with gym owners, but also lost respect with a few. Rightfully so, other business owners are ‘protective’ over their members. However, many forget that (good) healthcare does not (and should not) work that way.

I did not give in to, and still don’t, change the access or quality of care despite the location or working conditions provided. No matter what gym corner or small room I set up, I gave/give 100% to all my patients.

These struggles were just some of the many. They were hard for me because as a healthcare provider I truly just wanted to give everyone the best care I could.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a physical therapist. As a physical therapist – I am a “Movement Specialist.” I help people recover from injuries, surgeries, aches, and pains. I watch how people move and help them work towards the movements/sports they want to complete pain and restriction free.

I specialize in working with athletes and using a technique called dry needling. I have a lot of formal and informal training and experience with a variety of athletes and dry needling that has helped me serve abnormal, complicated, and fun cases with my patients. (Something that sets me apart) I also work really hard to promote and educate patients on prevention! I hate seeing people in pain. I teach people as many concepts as I can to apply to their training programs, sport, and physical lifestyle to stay healthy.

I am most proud of helping the athletes that I do, serving my community, and giving my all to provide quality care!
