Meet Jessica Ramirez of Dayton, Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Ramirez

Hi Jessica , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a professional wrestler! I started when I was a junior in high school. It was always a challenge being one of the only openly queer people at the time wrestling, but I pushed through and got to a point I would consider successful!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were tons of struggles. Wrestling was not used to queer people at all, so we really had to push back to get a place in the industry. I was also a broke teenager struggling and starving so I could wrestle 24/7. For ex. I would drive from PA to NC by myself. I would be the first person to arrive, help set up the show, wrestle, tear down, last person to leave. Then I would drive the whole way home only stopping for gas, take shower, and go to bed!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the first ever openly trans woman to wrestle for IMPACT Wrestling and the NWA (National Wrestling Alliance)! I am so proud to be a part of a group of such fearless queer wrestlers who have gotten to take the world by storm.

What matters most to you? Why?
representation. what matters to me most is that LGBTQ+ youth have role models to look up to, because we really didn’t have many, if any!
