Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Nieset.
Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Four years ago, January 6, 2020, I opened my doors at Fit 4 Life Physical Therapy. A series of life events brought me to that point, both personally and professionally. I had worked for over 20 years in the industry, and frankly, I was tired. I was tired of working under the constraints of an employer and insurance companies telling me what and how much therapy I could provide. I worked long hours and often missed my children’s events. My work-life balance was way out of whack.
In April of 2019, I was involved in a car accident that left me with a concussion and unable to work for 7 weeks. It was in this season that I discerned if I was to continue working in this industry, I would need to do something different. I began researching and discovered there were a group of physical therapists doing things differently.
I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d hang my own shingle. It has been the scariest and most rewarding decisions of my life. I now work for my patients in a beautiful, safe, and healing space. I have a fabulous office manager, and I hired a second PT this past January. I don’t miss my kids’ events anymore either…unless I cannot be in two places at once, a problem that sometimes happens when you have 4 kids.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not! I would say I had relatively smooth sailing for the first year or so… yes, even despite Covid. I had systems in place that allowed me to manage my patient load on my own. As I grew in patient volume and desired to have a larger impact yet not treat more patients myself, I hired a business coach to help me grow. I added an administrative assistant first, then a second PT a few months later. We quickly outgrew my 500 sq foot space with three of us. This led to a leap of faith into a beautiful 1800 sq ft space next door. It has been somewhat of a challenge encouraging patients who were used to just seeing me communicate through the front desk AND, more so, to try seeing another PT.
Technology, social media, email marketing, business planning, and accounting/payroll have been some of the biggest learning curves for me along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
At Fit 4 Life Physical Therapy, we help active people overcome pain or injury so they can get back to doing what they love quickly. We pride ourselves on taking time to listen to your story. Many times, by the time our patients sit in front of us, they have been to numerous healthcare professionals, invested much time and money, and still don’t understand what their problem is or how to fix it.
At Fit 4 Life Physical Therapy, we are experts in your movement system. We treat patients with neck pain, back pain, shoulder, hip, knee, or ankle pain. We enjoy working with all active youth and adults, including many area runners.
When you place your trust in us, you will leave day 1 with an understanding of your pain/problem and have tools you can use to help yourself take control of your life back.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory is taking a month-long trip out west with my parents and sisters. We pulled our pop-up camper with our Oldsmobile Delta 88 and headed west. We camped along the way, from Ohio to California, stopping at the Grand Canyon and spending a week in Colorado. We made memories that last a lifetime.
