Meet Jana Sullivan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Sullivan. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Jana Sullivan started off writing poetry to escape from depression at an early age. Reading became her second escape, urban fiction specifically that highlighted the things she had to go through growing up in poverty with a single mother. One day while reading Jana discovered a submission flyer in the back of the book highlighting the requirements to submit to a book company and took a chance. Not knowing that submitting three chapters of a book she started a day earlier would be the start of her newfound career. Almost immediately, Jana received a response with a contract and took off from their now having over thirty books penned under her belt. In 2022 Jana discovered the love for script writing and decided to turn her work up a notch and go from books to movies. In the upcoming years, Jana plans on starting her own production company that will not only film her books but other African American stories as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some struggles that I had to overcome with being an author were signing wrong contracts and joining the wrong circles. In any business, you will have the bad guys that try to take advantage of someone whenever money is involved, but it was a lesson learned.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an author/screenwriter. I specialize in urban fiction, hood fiction, street lit. My most proudest moment was making Amazon number one best sellers list with my top series Bella and Braxton: A hood love story. What sets me apart from other authors are Every book I write is going to be funny, but it’s going to have some kind of lesson behind it.

What does success mean to you?
Success is being able to look back and say My kids can be proud of me. Success is knowing that I accomplished something that most people only dream of doing.
