Meet Jaize Hudson of Savon’s Selection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaize Hudson.

Hi Jaize, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story… I don’t even know how to shape such an ongoing journey into words but here it goes! I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Bedford City schools up until I graduated in 2020 which was the very start of Covid… I did not get have a graduation or prom but we’ll get to that when the time comes lol! Growing up, I had a very monumental childhood to say the least. I am the only girl out of 5 children which was definitely an experience in itself! Being the only girl surrounded by all brothers built my strength but also left me yearning for a close friend… I never felt as if I belonged because frankly, I didn’t. No one around me could really relate to me because I was so different from my brothers. I think my parents did not realize that raising a young woman was very different than a young man so I believe that is where I get my fierce attitude from as some would call it! My childhood was definitely the catalyst in shaping where I am today and where I am headed. Growing up school was honestly a breeze for me, I never had problems with grades or behavior I was always a straight-A student. The only problem with school was I never liked the restraints and stress of doing things that didn’t stimulate me. Since a child, I’ve been told that I just have a rebel spirit but honestly I just always questioned the things that were a “way of life” to those around me. I just came here with the mindset that anything I want I can have and nothing is out of reach.. because who said so? but anyways back to school, in middle school, I played the clarinet up until my sophomore year in high school. I quit because I wanted to focus more on volleyball which I started playing at the age of 7. I played varsity Volleyball from sophomore year till I graduated while playing Junior Olympic Volleyball as well. I traveled with my team to different places and definitely made some great bonds. During high school, I was also a part of some great programs like D.E.C.A and B.P.A (Business Professionals of America) which helped open my eyes to the endless opportunities that the world really has to offer. During my senior year of high school, I knew that I had to make a decision on my next chapter in life whether that was going to college or starting a business which I always knew I wanted to do since a child. I imagined my name being known all over the world for helping others… I just knew I would find my way. In August of 2019, I started my first business Savon’s Selection selling customs accessories and phone cases as a graduating senior but I knew shortly after, that was too boring for me. It was a good starting point but it made me want to find my purpose even more. After graduation, I decided to go to college at Cleveland State University for marketing and that is when my life changed forever. I started college and that was so life-changing for me. As a student who always got good grades, I was not used to struggling or having difficulties with school. I could not get into the college vibe, I was so miserable every day in virtual college, I just knew I could not keep going the way I was. I was inspired to create a change for me because I felt so alone. I just went through the toughest heartbreak of my life and I was struggling in college. Desperate for change I started looking for outlets to release my anxiety and frustrations. I always felt better doing self-care and getting myself dolled up. Looking pretty made me feel better but it did not solve my problems. In the Spring of first year, I made the tough decision to drop out because I was losing myself day by day. Once I dropped out, I started pouring back into myself giving me all the love and attention I was lacking. I started loving on myself which in turn helped me drop all the extra weight and baggage I had been carrying and that is when I found my passion. I started looking into how to make units for women of all origins. Hair units are very big in the beauty industry and it always amazed me how people can make those units look so realistic and cut out the time it takes for the hair salon. I started working on making units from scratch every since then and I’ve been loving the journey of Savon’s Selection. Savon is my middle name and I only select the best to be in my life so I thought that would be the perfect name for my business! It’s so much more that makes up my life but this was a good start to where my testimony goes!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely would not use smooth to describe the road I’ve been journeying but more like enlightening. I believe that no road worth taking is smooth so some struggles along the way were really just lessons for me to keep close. Some struggles of mine was believing in myself completely. In today’s society, we are told what we “need” to do in order to become successful in the eyes of the world. So for me to go against the ideal life path for young adults today was definitely mentally taxing. So many opinions and judgment surrounded my decisions but no encouragement. No inspiring energy for me to feel confident in. Looking back, I appreciate everything happening the way it did because it made me self-sufficient and only look for validation in myself. Another struggle was definitely grounding myself and bouncing back from the financial hardships in my life. Starting a business, as a college dropout with no real support was another lesson not struggle I encountered because even though I did struggle with God by my side, I continue to rise above every obstacle set in my path. I had no money to fund the start of my business, so I felt really discouraged because I was stepping out on faith for only something my heart knew would work out. No real tangible evidence just a burning desire in my heart for more. Then to top it all off, on October 27th, 2021, I almost lost my life in a near-death car accident that resulted in my car being totaled and my friend with a broken jaw. That was the most life-changing event that has ever happened in my life. We were told that God is the only reason why we made it out of my car alive in one piece and I truly believe that. We hit 2 trees and flipped after being slide swiped by another vehicle. Seeing your life flash before your eyes will really have you appreciating the smallest things on this earth that we take for granted every day. Just to be able to hug a friend or feel the wind is such a blessing that this world has had us taking for granted. Just to be able to wake up and chase your dreams another day is such an underrated blessing that put me back in such a humble place. So many lessons along the way, and I’m forever willing to learn over and over. The day you stop learning is the day you stop living.

We’ve been impressed with Savon’s Selection, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Savon’s Selection is my brand where I make and sell custom wig units. I specialize in wig customizations with installations. I revamped my brand because I never liked waiting in the salon all day for a hairstyle and I love changing my look often so I thought what better way than create multiple looks that you could switch when you want. Growing up, I was known for keeping my hair done always it was like therapy for me. What sets me apart from others is my passion for creativity and quality. When I make a unit from scratch, I think about infusing my products with self-love and confidence. I want every customer to feel beautiful and embody that energy so I make sure to put my heart in every project. I value each customer I have because I appreciate anybody who believes in me. Support means the world to me. I want readers to know that this is only the beginning for Savon’s Selection and we are just getting started with major plans to help all women feel like the beautiful queens y’all are! Self-love is the best love and the world has a good way of making us feel unsatisfied with ourselves.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was going on a family vacation to Atlanta with my whole family. We visited my relatives that already lived there and went to so may different attractions like the aquarium and Coca Cola Factory. I had so much fun with my cousins and that was the only trip where all of my family was included. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will cherish forever.

Another memory that I will forever remember is having sleep overs with my two friends that are twins, Mya and Mia! We would be together every weekend after school, after games we went to go to church together just know when you saw me you saw them lol! We’ve been friends since elementary school and we are now closer than ever! It’s rare to keep friends for 10+ years through all of life’s changes and now as young women making our marks on this world!! We keep each other up and have been since kids. I’m so grateful to have them still as friends through it all. We all are CEOs and have big dreams that the world will know!
