Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Brown.
Hi Imani, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had a trip coming up and I wanted to drop a few pounds so I started meal prepping for myself to avoid all the eating out I was doing on my lunch breaks. Someone I worked with asked me to meal prep for her (Alex) and that was the start of Inner Body Excellence. I knew then and now how a healthy diet sometimes takes a backseat to time and convenience and I want to help make it easier to do better when you don’t’ have time or if you’re not sure how to take the next step in the right direction. As my business has developed, I’ve been focusing in on the nutrition aspect of my brand and how I can improve my services to better encourage healthier lifestyles within my community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, there have been times when I’ve wanted to quit. It’s discouraging when no one is buying your product or using your service. Even though I’ve heard that that’s just a part of starting a business, it’s not comforting when you’re putting your money into something and not receiving anything back. I’ll stay consistent anyway. I plan to grow myself and my brand and make a positive impact on the people around me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
IBE is a healthy lifestyle brand. The purpose of my brand is to promote, encourage, and assist with all things health but especially nutrition. I started as a meal prep service only but have since begun to offer other products and services- and with more on the way. I provide prepared meals that include calories and macronutrients. I make the effort to have something for everyone so I offer options that adhere to special diets like vegan, pescatarian, keto, etc. I sell fresh 100% natural juices in which I use only fresh fruits and veggies- no additives or sweeteners. I also offer kid-friendly prepped lunches which I call Kid’s Prep; they are perfect for school and each one comes with a fruit and veggie. Soon you will also find things like waist beads, fitness equipment, and apparel through my brand. I will continue to expand and offer new things as I grow. I just really want to help fill in that gaps that are missing in my community’s knowledge of health and nutrition. I hope to make it easier for those who are trying to take steps toward a healthier lifestyle.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is focus. The more effort I put into my business the more it flourishes. I’ve watched IBE grow and improve as a brand and I’m proud of my progress. I can look at pictures of meals I prepped a year ago and I see major growth. The growth that I know happened because I’ve made the success of my business a priority and I keep pushing myself to do more, do better, BE better.
