Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather McCormick.
Heather, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m born and raised in the Cleveland area. I’ve always been creative and an artsy type. I had a company in the Lakewood area based on kindness and diversity in the past. In 2023, I simply decided to become an artist. So, I just said, “Hey! I’m an artist,” and I was.
I am Kind To My Mind By “Arting” All Over The Place. My company is called Kind Mind Art, and I make mixed media art pieces and furniture. I sell mainly locally, but I will ship if needed. I also offer classes and I also work for a Non-profit in Cleveland called Food Strong.
In my spare time, I love to be out in nature and or, of course, making some art. I have two cats named Henna and Etta, and I live in the Cleveland area. I believe in the good in people, and I choose joy every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With Covid, I lost an entire startup company after being open just one year. I’ve moved eight, yes, eight times in the last three years, and I’m finally settled and still laying down debt from the business loss. I started making art regularly for my mental health and to be KIND TO MY MIND.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m Miss Heather, and I read stories online; I’ve always worked with the general public mainly children. I teach art and social-emotional learning with both my company, Kind Mind Art, and also through my work with the Freshest Non-profit in Cleveland, Food Strong. I’m known around the area as The Kindness Lady.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My honest advice to someone starting out is “If you are opening an actual venue for your business, please be sure you have triple the amount of money than what you think you need. Reevaluate that business plan again and then do it again.” Also, “Be adaptable and evolve! “
