Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Bowers.
Hi Hannah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Little Diggers was born from a perfect blend of personal experience, entrepreneurial spirit, and market opportunity. From a parent’s perspective, the inspiration for Little Diggers began with two young boys (now three children!) who loved nothing more than playing outside with dirt, trucks, and their imaginations. Hours of entertainment in a backyard was the catalyst to create a space that brings the joys of physical play indoors. Growing up in the country, we cherished the chance to explore outside and build things, but recognize that not all families have access to this kind of experience—especially in urban areas.
The idea took root during the Covid-19 pandemic, when many indoor play spaces for young children were forced to close. This left a gap in the market, particularly for families with children ages 7 and under. Recognizing this need, and with experience in starting and growing businesses, we decided to take action. Little Diggers became a reality.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any entrepreneurial journey, things have not always gone as planned! Our initial opening timeline for Dublin (the original location) was scheduled for October 2023. While delays are not uncommon with opening a new business, our timeline quickly became complex with the impending arrival of our daughter. On November 9, we welcomed our daughter, and two weeks later, we were in the sandbox leveling sand. At our launch party, our sweet girl was just 6 weeks old. In many ways, we’ve always joked that we had two babies that year.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My husband, Zach Bowers, is a multi-time entrepreneur (most recently VC-backed) and software developer.
I am an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Certified Lactation Counselor with a passion for supporting women in all stages of women’s health. My most recent project was a fertility-focused company with a community of over 30,000 women from all over the world. I worked with a variety of prominent brands, including Proov and Inito. During that time, I created a variety of downloads, published in-depth articles on the topic of fertility, and interviewed over 50 leading experts in the field of functional fertility interventions, infertility/subfertility, and fertility nutrition on my podcast.
We met thirteen years ago working in broadcast television. Initially, he was my boss, but then I transitioned off his crew and onto my own show. We both worked in that field for 5+ years and directed a variety of live/recorded shows before moving on to other industries.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
We did quite a bit of traveling growing up. In the fall, we would spend a week or two in Miami so my Dad could teach. While he was away during the day, we would go to the pool, visit less popular beaches, or spend time with my Aunt, who lived in the area at that time. One year, my mom, Aunt, and I drove down to the keys. It was hot and the drive was long. I specifically remember driving out on the highway that runs over the ocean and marveling at how we could drive on the water. During that excursion, we stopped at a little shop and I picked out a hermit crab. He lived – and frequently escaped – in our family room for a while before we took him back to Miami and released him into the wild.
