Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah and Mike Moyer.
Hannah and Mike, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Mike and I met working for a food distributor based in Cleveland OH and really got to know each other over coffee at a food show. As our love and relationship grew, we continued to dream of starting a business together. Mike had some experience roasting coffee, and considering that was a mutual passion of ours, it seemed natural to dive deeper into the world of coffee together. So now we own and operate a coffee roasting business, sourcing specialty-grade coffee from around the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a road of challenges and growth. So, I don’t know that I would call it a smooth road, but we have been challenged intrapersonally more than anything else. The struggle to find the motivation some days is rough, and comparing yourself to other businesses doesn’t help. There are a lot of people roasting coffee, so finding our own way/niche has been a winding road that will only continue to teach us new things.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Between the two of us we both have an approximate thirty years in the food and beverage industry. Our knowledge of both front & back of house is incredibly helpful in this venture, and our weird and eclectic style of business definitely sets us apart. Mike has more of the creative brain, always looking to come up with a different blend or beverage for the business. I am really good at the organization and operations side of things- this business puts my OCD to good use!
We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking?
With big risk comes big rewards. Or so you hope. We are both very credit adverse and want to do everything slowly in order to protect our financial investment in our business. We are in the middle of our biggest risk yet – opening up our first brick and mortar! Both of us have been calculated risk-takers in our past lives, so that is reminding us to not be afraid to take this leap.
