Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregg Walker.
Hi Gregg, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I actually got started trying to take pictures of scenes to recreate as acrylic landscape paintings.
The images were not coming out the way I saw them on camera so I started training myself in photography.
I’ve been learning and perfecting my images ever since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At first, it was easy because I had nothing to compare my work to. Once I started researching images, however, I realized how much farther I had to go.
Being self-taught also provided several challenges.
Trying to figure out where to start learning (because there is a lot to learn technique wise), learning to organize my workflow and how to bring my images to life (that communicates the best to my audience) has created some unique growth opportunities, but we’ll worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Artistic Explorer Creations ?
My business focuses on body positivity, being LGBTQ+ friendly and helping new or emerging models to have a safe and ethical space to explore their creativity.
With all that in mind, I’m most proud of the trust I easily build through communication and providing a safe space to express a mutual artistic expression through photography.
I offer a variety of services, depending on the clients needs and wants. I’m fairly flexible on what I shoot.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
It is a very good idea, especially when you hit those self doubts we as artists face almost every day.
Groups focusing on photography are all over Facebook, Meetup and other social media sites.
You can share your work, request critiques and ask for mentors or just shadow more experienced photographers. Some will want to charge you for this as another revenue stream. In such cases, I would review their work and studio and trust your gut as to whether they can provide the right type of learning environment and if it’s worth the cost.
