Meet Emma Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Smith. 

Hi Emma, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Emma Smith and I have found my purpose in helping others achieve a healthier lifestyle physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. 

I started my journey with sports and exercise very young, as a dancer and musical theater performer, and transitioned into competitive powerlifting and weight training when I began my undergraduate degree at Kent State University. Currently, I own a small online personal training business (Emsraefit) and am actively pursuing my Master’s degree in Sport Psychology at Florida State University. 

I created Emsraefit to help educate and empower other women to create sustainable change in their fitness journey. Using a science-based approach, I help my clients to change their mindset surrounding fitness and build lifelong exercise and nutrition habits. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a new business owner is never easy and financial and time constraints are always challenging obstacles to overcome. During the time that I decided that I wanted to be a personal trainer, I had been juggling working two jobs in addition to going to school full-time. Add studying for the certification exam and applying to grad school on top of that and I was completely overwhelmed. Keeping myself motivated was difficult. There were many things I had to give up in undergrad to make sure that I was staying on target with completing my goals. 

I was able to persevere, complete my degree and my certificate program, and begin working with a small handful of clients to build up some practical experience and supplemental income. From there, I saved up enough money to purchase and establish my LLC and rest is history! 

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an online personal trainer and small business owner. Through the lens of sport and exercise psychology, I work with my clients to change their mindset surrounding exercise build sustainable exercise and nutrition habits that they can follow for years to come. My programs and coaching styles utilizes a science-based approach that emphasizes the interconnection between the mind and body. 

What matters most to you?
Transparency and authenticity. My goal is always to ensure that I am doing my part to provide the best and most accurate information to my clients and to be a support system for them when needed. I know that what I say holds weight over the decisions that they make in the context of their health and well-being and I do not take that responsibility lightly.
