Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward & Angelica Kisiel.
Hi Edward & Angelica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
EKA Build really started long before we officially opened our doors in 2016.
We both grew up around construction. Ed spent his childhood on job sites with his father, who was a builder, and continued working alongside him for many years. Before we were even married, Ed had already built two custom homes on his own while working full-time as a Professional Engineer. That engineering background, combined with years of hands-on construction experience, shaped the way he approaches every home, always thinking about how it will perform not just today, but 10, 20, or even 50 years from now.
I grew up watching my father build a successful finish carpentry business, which gave me an appreciation for craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, and serving people well. I went on to earn a business degree and MBA, never imagining that one day we’d be building homes together.
About two years into our marriage, I stepped up to help Ed with another custom home. He was and is passionate about building homes and I wanted to support him. What started as simply helping my husband soon became something we both genuinely passionate about! Together, we discovered how much we enjoyed not only creating beautiful homes, but also building relationships with the families who would live in them.
As that passion continued to grow, it became clear this wasn’t just a side business anymore. In 2016, we took the leap and founded EKA Build full-time with a desire to glorify God through the way we serve our clients, care for our team, and build every home. Our faith continues to shape how we approach our work, reminding us to lead with integrity, humility, and excellence.
Today, our primary focus is building custom homes throughout Northeast Ohio, while also helping families transform the homes they already love through thoughtfully planned remodels and additions. Whether we’re building from the ground up or reimagining an existing home, our goal is the same.
Our goal wasn’t to become the biggest builder. It is to build homes we could be proud to put our name on and to create an experience where clients felt cared for from the first conversation through long after they moved in.
Over the years, our designs, building science knowledge, and processes have continued to evolve, but our core values haven’t changed. We still believe in doing things the right way, communicating openly, and never cutting corners. Every project is personal to us because our clients work directly with us throughout the process.
At the end of the day, we’re not just building houses. We’re helping families create the place where they’ll celebrate birthdays, gather for holidays, raise children, and make memories for decades to come. That’s a responsibility we never take lightly, and it’s what continues to motivate us every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has made us better.
One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned, both in business and in our personal lives, is that we’re never done growing. Our faith in Christ continually reminds us not to become complacent or settle for “good enough.” Instead, we’re called to keep learning, improving, and serving others well. That mindset shapes the way we approach our work every day.
Every project teaches us something. We’re always looking for ways to improve our process, communicate more clearly, and build even better than we did before. The building industry is constantly changing, so we’re continually researching new products while also reevaluating materials we’ve trusted for years. Just because something is new doesn’t automatically make it better, and just because something has been used for decades doesn’t mean it’s still the best solution. We believe it’s our responsibility to keep learning so we can make the best decisions for our clients.
We’ve also learned that quality doesn’t happen by accident. Even though we have trusted trade partners we’ve worked with for years, we’re constantly on the job site reviewing the work and making sure everything meets our standards. Every home carries our family name, so we take that responsibility seriously.
Another ongoing challenge has been the rising cost of construction. Material and labor costs have continued to increase, making it more difficult for families to build or remodel the home they envision. We work hard to review costs, find efficiencies, and provide the best value possible, but we’re simply not willing to cut corners or substitute lower-quality materials just to reach a lower price point. We want the homes we build and remodel to be durable, healthy, comfortable, and built to last.
We know that approach isn’t the right fit for everyone, and that’s okay. We’d rather be honest about what it takes to build a quality home than compromise the product or our values. In the end, our goal is to create lasting value for our clients and build homes we would be proud to call our own.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At EKA Build, we believe a great home is about much more than how it looks when it’s finished. It’s about how it’s built, how it performs, and how the entire experience feels from the first conversation to long after move-in.
We are an owner-led custom home builder and remodeler serving Northeast Ohio. We primarily build custom homes, while also helping families transform the homes they already love through thoughtfully planned remodels and additions.
What sets us apart is both our approach and the final product.
From the beginning, we focus on listening, educating, and guiding our clients through what can often feel like an overwhelming process. We believe clear communication, realistic budgeting, and thoughtful planning lead to better decisions, fewer surprises, and a much more enjoyable experience.
At the same time, we’re just as passionate about the quality behind the walls as we are about the finishes you see every day. Ed’s background as a Professional Engineer, combined with decades of construction experience, influences every project. We constantly evaluate building methods, products, and details to make sure we’re creating homes that are durable, comfortable, healthy, energy efficient, and built to last. We don’t believe in cutting corners simply because no one will see them. In our minds, those are often the details that matter most.
We’re also committed to continually improving. Every project teaches us something, and we’re always refining our process, researching better materials, and looking for ways to serve our clients even better. We believe there’s always room to learn and grow.
If there’s one thing we hope people remember about EKA Build, it’s that we genuinely care. We care about our clients, we care about the homes we build, and we care about our reputation. Every project carries our name, and that’s a responsibility we never take lightly.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
If we had to choose one characteristic, it would be perseverance rooted in our faith.
Owning a business is hard. There are long days, difficult decisions, rising costs, unexpected challenges, and seasons where you wonder how everything will come together. Like many small business owners, we’ve experienced moments of exhaustion and uncertainty. But through those seasons, God has been faithful, and we’ve learned to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
One verse that has guided our business from the beginning is Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.” We even include it on our marketing materials because it’s a daily reminder of who we’re ultimately working for. It challenges us to pursue excellence, act with integrity, and never settle for “good enough,” especially in the details no one else will ever see.
That mindset has also taught us humility. We don’t believe we’ve “arrived.” Every project teaches us something. We’re constantly refining our process, researching better building methods, learning from our mistakes, and looking for ways to serve our clients even better. We believe that commitment to continual growth ultimately leads to better homes, better relationships, and a better experience for every family we have the privilege of serving.
