Today we’d like to introduce you to Djunknown.
Hi Djunknown, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started with a passion for music, entertainment, and creating real vibes that connect people. What began as DJing and experimenting with mixes has grown into something much bigger over the years.
Flava1Radio has been one of my biggest milestones — launching it nearly 5 years ago, and now celebrating our 5-year anniversary this Labor Day. It started as a small online station and has grown into a platform that highlights diverse voices, sounds, and shows from all over.
On top of that, I’m currently working on launching a brand new podcast called Top Rope with my cohost, The Barbarian Boi, also known as Chris Hall from Buffalo, NY. It’s a mix of wrestling talk, music, culture, and real conversations — coming soon.
Along the way, we took our energy to TikTok and built a dope community called Lit Nation, which is growing rapidly. It’s more than just content — it’s culture, it’s connection, and it’s impact. And looking ahead, I’m also working on community-focused projects that we hope to fully launch in 2026.
The journey hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been real — built on passion, creativity, and the drive to keep moving forward.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Not even close.
From the DJ booth to radio, podcasts, and even film—this journey has been built on hard lessons, late nights, and learning as I go.
My DJ career didn’t take off overnight. I had to grind for every booking, prove my value in rooms that weren’t always welcoming, and push through times when support from my own city was minimal. It’s one thing to have talent—but getting people to actually believe in you? That’s another battle.
Then came Flava1 Radio. We started with nothing but a dream and the will to create something different. No outside funding, no big machine behind us—just passion. We hit roadblocks figuring out how to broadcast, promote, and stay consistent while still working jobs and dealing with real life.
Launching the Top Rope Podcast was another leap. Getting schedules right, figuring out branding, creating content—it’s a whole production. And now with our TikTok family Lit Nation growing fast, we’re learning how to scale without losing our authenticity.
And then there’s Nightmare Giggles—my short horror film. That brought a whole new set of challenges: writing, filming, directing, editing—often with limited resources and all self-funded. But the feedback reminded me it was worth it, and that’s why it’s coming back stronger in 2025.
Every lane I’ve stepped into has had setbacks, but I’ve never let it stop me. This journey’s been far from easy, but it’s made me sharper, tougher, and more committed than ever.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a DJ, content creator, and radio personality with a passion for connecting people through music and energy. I specialize in blending genres—from hip-hop and dancehall to R&B and throwbacks—creating unforgettable experiences whether I’m live on the airwaves with Flava1 Radio, behind the decks at an event, or online with digital mixes and visuals.
What I’m known for is my consistency, creativity, and the ability to bring a room—or a livestream—to life. I’ve built a loyal audience over the years by staying true to my sound, while always adapting to new trends and technology. From “Monday Madness” shows to exclusive themed mixes, I bring energy, personality, and purpose into every set.
One of my proudest accomplishments is launching and growing Flava1 Radio, which will hit its 5-year anniversary this Labor Day. It started as a small idea and grew into a real platform that highlights diverse voices and gives independent DJs and creatives a home. I’m also excited about expanding with projects like the Top Rope Podcast and our fast-growing Lit Nation community on TikTok, where music meets culture and comedy.
What sets me apart is that I’m not just here to play music—I’m building something bigger. I care about creating community, telling stories through sound, and using every platform available to make people feel something real. Whether it’s a party, a podcast, or a post, I show up with purpose.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy? Why?
What makes me happy is seeing the impact I create through music and family. As a DJ, there’s no better feeling than watching a crowd light up to the energy I bring—it’s not just about playing music, it’s about connecting souls and creating moments people remember forever. That gives me a real sense of purpose.
But beyond the turntables and the mic, my greatest happiness comes from being a father to my four amazing kids—three boys and one beautiful daughter. Their smiles, their growth, their unique personalities—they remind me daily why I hustle so hard. They are my motivation to keep pushing, even when the grind gets heavy.
And I can’t forget my fiancé—my rock, my partner in all of this. Her love and support keep me grounded. She believes in me even when I question myself, and having someone who rides with you through the highs and lows is a blessing not everyone gets.
So yeah, what makes me happy? It’s the balance between living my passion and raising a family that fuels me with love, strength, and motivation every single day.
