Meet Dave Myers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Myers. 

Hi Dave, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out playing guitar in bands for years back in Denver. Gradually over time, I became interested in making music for use in sync-license. During the pandemic, when the live music industry was severely curtailed, I finally made the decision to focus almost exclusively on production music for use in TV and media. I moved to Ohio over the summer of 2021 and currently operate out of my home studio in Cincinnati. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path has definitely not been smooth the whole way! Initially, the changing nature of the music industry as a whole made it hard to find a pathway forward as a performer. Then, as I was beginning to shift into producing music, my plan was to travel to music and industry conferences around the country to find business leads. However, the lockdown happened soon after I began doing that, so I had to completely shift my strategy to online work. 

Now, I’m starting to release music through several large music libraries and things are beginning to smooth out for the time being. 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating instrumental rock and country music for sync-licensing use across various media. I’m also a session guitarist by trade, so I still play live music as a hired gun, although as a new arrival to Ohio I haven’t found current live-work yet. 

I’m known for a very American, roots-oriented sound in my writing and production, and pride myself on a bare-bones approach that focuses on creating an atmosphere and a full, deep feel using minimal instruments. 

I also pride myself on filling client orders on time and on budget! 

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
In the creative field, perseverance and the ability to learn and adapt are key. Also, how to do business, which is something a lot of artistic people don’t learn. There have been many, many times when I thought I’d have to quit music and get more stable employment, but I always found the drive to keep going even when things weren’t working out. The person who succeeds is often the one who simply doesn’t give up. You’re the only person who can decide to keep going. nobody else can walk your path for you.
