Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Patterson.
Hi Chase, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
As long as I can remember I’ve always loved comedy. Comedy and music. I’ve always loved to laugh. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a good laugh?? If you’re the type of person who doesn’t like to laugh… Well, then you probably sleep sitting up. 2012-2103, I was in a pretty dark place. I had a job, but I was pretty much broke. Recently divorced, so I was single. No cable, no internet, no laughs, barely scraping by type deal. I had a phone and my neighbor let me connect to their WiFi when I would get home. I stumbled across a comedian named Amiri King. The dude cracked me up. I watched him for months and months. One day I was watching one of his videos and he got really serious. Talking about how nobody owes you anything type of video. It really resonated with me.
I thought about that video and the things he said for about 2-3 years. Then one day it hit me. If I can do to people, just one person, what he did to me, change my thought process, laugh, stop feeling sorry for myself, then that’s it. Laughter is the best medicine, right?? So I started pounding it out on social media. Every day just gets a like here, a share there. I posted a video called “Welcome to Ohio… You probably won’t stay long.” It’s pretty much about us Ohioans who don’t like it here, but we really love it here. And man it took off and went viral in a hurry. Shortly after, a gentleman from Georgia reached out to me and said his son watched my videos, and that his son is autistic and after watching me it was like he came out of his shell. He started communicating with his parents and he even started doing comedy videos with his dad. That meant so much to me!! It’s been 6 years since I started this journey, I just recently qualified for social media monetization this year. I still work at the same place and I have a long way to go to make this into a career. But I’ve had a blast so far, I’ve met some amazing people and I have no reason to stop making people laugh anytime soon.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been smooth, lol. There have been countless threats, social media bans, upset family members, etc. But the positivity has always outweighed the negative, so why stop now?? I’m doing what I love to do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I pretty much just record and edit comedic, satire-type videos. I enjoy making memes and live streams from time to time.
I’m most proud of my children. I have a 17-year-old daughter named Alexis and a 13-year-old son named Blake. I don’t like bragging about my kids, but these two kids are something special.
I don’t think anything sets me apart from others. I’m just like anyone else.
What matters most to you? Why?
My family. I’ve been in some rough spots, and needed help and my family has always been there time and time again to back me up whether it’s been good or bad.
