Hi Chante’, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My entrepreneurial journey began over 15 years ago when I opened my own Beauty Supply Store in Fairborn, Ohio. Serving three major universities and an Air Force Base, I observed a significant need for skilled stylists in the area. This sparked an unexpected passion within me. Despite growing up doing my own hair, I had never considered a career in cosmetology. However, I felt a deep-seated talent waiting to be unleashed.
Driven by this intuition, I enrolled in cosmetology school. To my surprise, I fell head over heels for the art of hair cutting. It felt effortless, a natural expression of my creativity. Soon, clients were eagerly anticipating my cuts. While I envisioned building my clientele alongside my store, life took an unexpected turn. I relocated to Cleveland, Ohio.
Undeterred, I pursued my passion. Six years at Great Clips not only honed my skills but also ignited a deeper love for the craft. During this time, I earned my Cosmetology Instructor’s license, finding immense joy in guiding aspiring stylists and witnessing their “Aha!” moments.
Ever the student, I expanded my horizons by obtaining my Real Estate license while teaching. This unique blend of education and professional growth fueled my passion. After a three-month social media detox, I passed the exam on the first try. Leaving the teaching nest, I dove into the world of real estate, achieving over $1.2 million in property sales in the Greater Cleveland area within a year.
However, the allure of hair cutting remained strong. Two months ago, I finally fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening my own salon suite: Lola’s Cuts. It’s a space where I can express my artistic vision and provide clients with a truly personalized experience. This journey, from beauty supply store owner to salon suite proprietor, has been a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace new challenges.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey at 17 began with a desire to become an Elementary School Teacher, which evolved into a career as a Juvenile Court Residential Counselor. It wasn’t until I discovered the beauty world that I truly felt at home. However, relocating to Cleveland presented new challenges. I obtained my CDL Class B license and I had to take on other roles, such as School Bus Driver and Dump Truck Driver, to support myself while pursuing my passion.
Eventually, I returned to teaching, albeit in a different realm, and everything started to make sense. Life itself presented the greatest obstacles, but I persevered, acquiring new certifications and adapting to my circumstances.
Today at 47, I’m finally on the right track, owning my own Salon Suite and embarking on a career in Real Estate. This journey has taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and trusting my intuition.

Risk-taking has been a cornerstone of my life. I believe that without embracing the unknown, true success and personal growth are impossible.
Looking back, I realize that I’ve often thrived in situations where I had no clear roadmap. These experiences, while sometimes challenging, have been invaluable in shaping who I am today.
