Today we’d like to introduce you to Brody Merlot.
Hi Brody, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I go by Brody Merlot, formerly known as Da 3rd Element. I was born and raised in Ashtabula, Ohio but relocated to Cincinnati to attend Xavier University. I crafted my skills as a hip-hop emcee in talent shows early on, but I took it more serious when a knee injury derailed my hoop dreams. My close friends, Chubb and Jaime, believed in me and built my confidence up musically. Long story short, I really connected with the culture in Cincinnati and met tons of creatives; like Kent and Joney who are two of my partners in fashion along with Chubb. We have a clothing brand called 9Lives Apparel. Together we form the collective Brody Merlot Conglomerate LLC . We are LA based with Ohio roots. I also have an album out with producer, Sal Dali, who just won a Grammy for his work on Beyonce’s “Renaissance” album. Our project is titled “Gift Of Determination” (G.O.D.) and its available on all streaming platforms.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Losing my friend Jaime to cancer was devastating and is still hard to fathom. There’s been many losses and obstacles along the way. Financing a career in music and fashion can be challenging too. However, you don’t quit easily when you love what you’re doing. My transition from Ohio to California sums up the 9Lives concept and theme of the “G.O.D” album. Never quit, always land on your feet, and keeping going. My partners also have similar stories. It’s important to reinvent yourself and adjust with the times.

I am a Hip Hop Artist and also Co-Owner/Creative Director for 9Lives Apparel. I have a career in International Ecommerce as well. Most people are familiar with me musically though. I feel all my gifts complement each other, so I’m equally proud and excited for the next phase. I think what sets myself and Brody Merlot Conglomerate LLC apart is our originality and well-roundedness.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I might take some heat for this but I absolutely love Cincinnati and thinks it’s the best city in Ohio. The culture, food, music, sports, and vibe are hard to match. I currently live in Leimert Park in Los Angeles but come back to visit annually. My parents stay in the western suburbs of Cleveland. I basically drive through the whole state every time.
