Meet Brad Eickhoff of Brad Eickhoff, The Magician

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Eickhoff

Hi Brad, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Brad Eickhoff, known as Brad Eickhoff, The Magician, is a lifelong resident of the Greater Cincinnati area. His fascination with magic began at the tender age of five, inspired by local magicians at various events. Determined to learn the secrets of the craft, young Brad eagerly borrowed every magic book available at the Kenton County Library in Covington, Kentucky. He didn’t stop there, as he frequently visited Cincinnati’s magic shops, collected enchanting effects from around the globe, and soaked in wisdom from renowned magicians and illusionists at their lectures.

Over the past four and a half decades, Brad has honed his magical prowess, performing whenever and wherever he could. Today, he is a master magician, captivating audiences with his enchanting performances. Moreover, he shares his expertise by helping fellow magicians, crafting mesmerizing tricks for shows across the world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting out in magic can be quite the adventure for a young magician. Being only five years old, I face many tasks and challenges.

Mastering Techniques: The learning curve in magic can be steep. Young magicians need to master sleight of hand, misdirection, and other intricate techniques, which require countless hours of practice and patience. Even after performing for 47 years, I still need to practice and keep my skills sharp.

Finding Resources: Access to quality resources can be a challenge. While books and online tutorials are helpful now a days. these resources were not available in 1972. Learning from experienced magicians at clubs, shops, and lectures was invaluable but sometimes hard to find.

Developing a Unique Style: It’s important for young magicians to find their own voice and style, which can be tough in an industry filled with established performers. Innovation and personal flair set them apart. I did not want to be like David Copperfield. I developed a character of a person wanting to have fun with his audience while entertaining them.

Dealing with Skeptics: Some audiences may be skeptical or unimpressed, and dealing with criticism constructively is crucial. It takes resilience to keep performing and improving despite setbacks.

Balancing Practice with Life: Juggling school, social life, and magic practice requires good time management and discipline. When I started I was still in school. So I was limited to evening and weekend performances. I still face the same limitations today because magic is a sideline profession.

Financial Investment: Quality magic props and effects can be expensive. When I first started performing magic, a magic effect could be $1.00 to $50.00. In comparison, today an average magic effect can range from $500.00 to $1,500.00 or more.

Overcoming these challenges not only sharpens their magical skills but also builds character and resilience.

How do you think about luck?
I believe luck has played a significant role in both my life and business for several reasons. For example, I fell in love with the art of magic while watching other magicians perform. Several of these magicians would visit Cincinnati Children’s Hospital when I was young and being treated for cancer. Magic was something I could do while in the hospital, keeping my imagination active and vibrant.

Living in the Greater Cincinnati area was another stroke of luck. We were fortunate to have five different magic shops open at various times. Having several places to go allowed me to develop friendships with the owners, and I’m lucky to still call these people friends today.

Finally, I am fortunate to be able to do something that not only brings me happiness but also brings joy to others.
