Meet Benji Ballmer of Yellowbird Foodshed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benji Ballmer.

Hi Benji, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
20 years ago, I realized that the food system is rigged against our health.

In an effort to find out how to restore the most nutrient-dense food to my diet, I realized that the average customer would never be able to get to as many small farms as it would take to “shop” each week.

From that need, the Yellowbird Foodshed was born.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Never. Couldn’t be bumpier. Struggles include but are not limited to…
-cold chill chain
-weather
-bugs
-crop planning
-labor
-picking
-packing
-delivery
-technology
-fees
-marketing
-equipment
-big ag
-big tech
-big box stores

As you know, we’re big fans of Yellowbird Foodshed. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Working with over 100 food growers and producers from Ohio, our community of eaters has CAST THEIR VOTE with their fork. Each product that we carry has been sustainably raised, harvested, transported, and consumed.

Our members are constantly striving to create solutions to help restore one of the planet’s most fundamental, yet most corrupted systems…FOOD.

By asking ourselves and our customers, “Who Grew Your Food?”, we are partnering with both food growers and consumers to create a sustainable model that DEcentralizes our current food system

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
