Meet Angela Boehm of North Olmsted

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Boehm

Hi Angela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in the creative field when I was 13 years old. Directing plays with the neighborhood kids in my tree fort. I was so blessed to have my parents and our neighbors parents invest in us! They believed in us and bought lights and helped us rent venues to perform these plays. I saw by a VCR at 13 rewinding and pausing movies such as Grease 2 writing out the scripts for all of us. This turned into a theatre when I was in my early 20’s that I ran for 20 years. We put on shows mainly for kids but also some for adults, musicals, Shakespeare, events. We had dance classes, musical lessons, but running a non profit was hard. And the stress of making the financials work lead to a sale to a local college of what we had built while I turned my focus on film. I had been very grateful that one of my choreographers invited me to be an extra in Spiderman 3. I got on set and knew right away this is what I wanted to do. I started interning for a local CD for 3 years and a lot of hard work and determination is what got me here today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not, lol. But I think obstacles are what grows us as a person. Inside and outside of our career. You always have others judging you when you are in a position like this and you have to have tough skin. The job itself is extremely difficult with unrealistic last minute demands, lol. But I embrace that. There is nothing in film that surprises me anymore, wether on the set of Superman being asked for 5, 7year olds at 7pm at night for the next morning at 7am or being asked for an additional 50 military men willing to shave their heads and I have two days to produce this (Cherry) I embrace the challenge and it feels empowering to help give them what they want to tell the story we are all trying to tell.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What do I do, I cast commercials, and films both principal and background. I help set the atmosphere and put the actors in place to tell stories. Stories of history, truth, or just fun stories to make people laugh and take them away from everyday difficulties of life when they sit down to watch. What do I specialize in, I’d say being able to find the difficult asks, & street casting. Street casting is where we find real people- example someone who can juggle, or specializes in certain skills that might not be your every day actor and are needed for productions. I’m most proud of all of my work. They have all had a different set of challenges and we have grown through all of them. And in life all you can want is to move forward. What sets us apart from others, i honestly try very hard not to compare us to others. Too much pressure 🙂 So we just try each project to be a better version of ourselves than the last project we were on.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Oh yes, in the pursuit of bettering myself, I listen daily to Proverbs 31 ministries and the Exam room. Both help me in my health and spiritual journey. I’m also a fan of Ted Dansons “Where everybody knows your name” and I can be caught listening to David Goggins books while training for Run Disney with my son!
