Hi Alexandra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into wedding planning wasn’t a straight path. I finished my undergraduate degree in mathematics and begin working in that profession for several years. I was presented with the opportunity to start corporate event planning, where I learned the fundamentals of logistics and high-pressure execution. While I love the structure that came with planning these events, I felt drawn to something more personal, more emotionally fulfilling, especially after planning my own wedding. That’s when I set my sights on the wedding industry.
I did not want to make this leap blindly. I wanted to immerse myself in the world of weddings and truly understand what it takes to create a flawless, unforgettable day for couples. So, before stepping out on my own, I took the time to learn. I worked for an incredible wedding planner, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. She showed me the nuances that make each wedding so unique.
When the time was right, with her support and blessing, I launched Avi Luxe Events. The name itself is deeply personal, inspired by my daughter Avery, because just like her, this business is something I’ve nurtured, grown, and poured my heart into.
Now, I have the privilege of turning love stores into beautifully executed celebrations. Every wedding is a new adventure, and I bring the same meticulous attention to detail and passion for excellence that first sparked my love for events. My journey has been about more than just planning, it is about creating experiences that leave a lasting impact. And I am grateful for everyone who has supported me on this journey.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all! Like any small business owner, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges while building Avi Luxe Events. When I first launched, I knew I had the skills, the experience, and the passion to create unforgettable weddings, but that didn’t mean clients were lining up at my door. As the first few months went by, the self-doubt grew. I questioned whether I had made the right decision and if I had what it took to succeed in such a competitive industry. But I refused to give up. I kept networking, refining my brand, and showing up consistently. I poured my energy into making connections, perfecting my process, and ensuring that when I did book a client, their experience was nothing short of amazing. Slowly but surely, things shifted. One booked turned into a referral, which led to another and before I knew it, I was booked for months!
Of course, growth brought its own set of challenges. No matter how much I prepared, there were still situations I had never encountered before. That’s where my mentor, De of De Evans Events, became invaluable. She helped me navigate those tough moments, offering guidance and reassurance when I needed it most. Having someone in my corner who had been through it all made an incredible difference in my journey.
The road hasn’t been smooth, but every struggle taught me something important. It’s those challenges that have shaped me into the planner I am today.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you’re just starting out in the wedding industry, or any business, my biggest piece of advice is to be patient and stay persistent. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and in the beginning, it can feel like no one is paying attention to your work. Keep pushing, refining your brand and showing up and eventually, the momentum will come.
One thing I wish I knew earlier is that relationships are everything in this industry. Building strong connections with vendors and networking with other planners will take you further than any marketing strategy alone. People remember how you make them feel.
Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Having a mentor like De has been a game-changer for me. There will be situations you’ve never encountered before, and learning from someone who has been there can help you navigate those challenges with confidence.
Most importantly, believe in yourself and your vision. There will be tough days, but if you stay dedicated, keep learning, and focus on serving your clients, everything will fall into place.
