Life & Work with Tiffany Lyons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Lyons.

Hi Tiffany, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had an interest in fashion that started at a really young age. I was about 5 or 6 years old when I noticed that my paternal grandmother Wilhelmina Lyons and my maternal grandmother Linda Johnson were two of the flyest best-dressed women I knew. I grew up in church attending Mount Victory Baptist Church, where my grandmother Lyons was the First Lady. She would put on her Sunday’s best which were her two-piece suit skirt sets that she paired with all the right accessories including always wearing the perfect broach to compliment the outfit. Then there was Linda P Johnson who was a fashion statement on her own. Her being part of the corporate world she knew how important it was to always be presentable and look your best. She’s slay her tailored dress pants with chiffon blouses adding a pointed toe shoe, along with perfect accessories to complement the look. Linda always knew the importance of putting your best foot forward to get where you want to go, she instilled that in me. I remember being a young girl playing in all of her clothing, and her always telling me, “You want to always walk out the house looking like a 10”. So since then, I’ve always kept that in my mind. I started really paying attention to how I dressed back in 2009; I had just graduated in 2007 and was trying to figure out life. I was working at Alliance data at the time and just knew that’s not where my heart was. As the years went, I kept trying different things but I always found the most joy in fashion. I was always complimented on the way I dressed, all of my friends and family would ask me to style them for their events and special occasions. So, in 2016 I decided to officially become a stylist and start my career in the fashion industry. I started my styling business Dope Antics. Since I started, I’ve participated in being a stylist for a couple Fashion Shows, I’ve collaborated with small businesses styling their photo shoots to market their products and I’ve of course styled my clients here in the city. As time has passed, I’ve gotten so many compliments on my style, and how I wear an item, I’m always asked where I’ve gotten it and if I find that same item or something comparable. Which has brought me to where I am today entering into the world of influencing.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My journey to this point has not been a smooth road. It has been an up-and-down roller coaster to say the least. Some of the struggles I’ve encountered during my styling career is the lack of clientele at times, having customers express interest in booking services and then not hearing here from them anymore, and I’ve even had clients book services, pay the security deposits, and then not pay the final fee. And at one point I tried selling products because I was starting Dope Antics Boutique but because of the lack of marketing and no income coming in that ended quickly. All these things happening really left me extremely discouraged, wanting to give up on it all and call it quits, but one thing my grandmother Lyons would say is never give up and always press toward the mark. So, with her words in my head, I refuse to give up and that allows me to keep pushing forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the CEO and head wardrobe stylist for Dope Antics LLC, and I’m also a digital content creator for Tiffany LaVettee. I style clients for events, special occasions, and personal photo shoots. I also work with companies to market their products and assist with styling their photo shoots. Now I am also an Influencer/Digital Content creator (Tiffany LaVettee) so I come up with creative content to help businesses market and sell their products. I’m known for my Fashion sense and ability to pay attention to detail and put multiple wardrobes looks together. I am definitely most proud of everything I’ve been able to accomplish up to this point for both Dope Antics and the Tiffany LaVettee brand. What sets me apart from others in my field is I style and create content from my heart based on how I feel and how I want to make others feel. I’ve always said, “When you look good, you feel good.” So, when I’m getting dressed, I’m always channeling that energy especially when styling myself or my clients. I feel there is a certain level of confidence that a woman shows when she is dressed to the 9s and looking fabulously fly.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory is all of the shopping trips I did with my Grandma Linda Johnson. We would always go shopping at Target and JC Penny, sometimes to window shop and other times doing school shopping and just because shopping. I loved trying on clothes and creating multiple looks from the simplest pieces, and then the cherry on top was being able to enjoy how the look I created made me feel beautiful, confident, and ready to take on the world.
