Life & Work with The Greener Grass Podcast

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Greener Grass Podcast

Hi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Welcome to The Greener Grass Podcast where we discuss different topics and decide which side of the fence we’d rather be on! Hi, we’re your hosts, Emily and Jaci!

Although it’s only in the third season, the story of The Greener Grass Podcast really began more than twenty years ago at the Newport Music Hall. Meeting through mutual friends, we had an instant connection, and before long we were inseparable. We learned we had so much in common, including a wicked sense of humor. Together, over the years, we attended many concerts, tailgates, and countless social gatherings, a common thread woven among these events were endless games and wild conversations.

For years we joked about having our own reality show or podcast, wanting to share our humor with the masses. In 2019, after toying with the idea for so long, we began to put a plan into action. Deciding some of our games might not have long-term sustainability, we set into motion our most famous question – would you rather. Some of the topics would be innocuous; would you rather be blind or deaf, while other were far more outrageous, for example, would you rather… well… maybe you should just check out the show!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With no podcast experience apart from listening to other shows, we had to learn all of the ins and outs on our own. Starting with just coming up with a name – do you know how many podcasts are already out there? We wanted to have something that would grab listeners attention before they even hit play! We were off to a pretty smooth start, as far as amateur podcasting goes. We even managed to record episodes remotely during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. While we did all of the marketing and advertising on our own, we had an IT professional editing and posting our shows. But before long we found ourselves parting ways with our producer and taking control of all aspects of the show on our own. We learned how to use podcast equipment and editing software, and through self-taught tactics and leaning on the podcast community, we saw our show not only continue but to thrive.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
With the top podcast genre being  comedy, we knew we were in good company but had to find a way to set ourselves apart. Our listeners can always rely on The Greener Grass Podcast for  3 main constants. First, we’ve never changed or shied away from our concept. We are and have always been unapologetically ourselves. Second, we have never missed a deadline or release date. And third is FUN! While we take the business of podcasting very seriously, our show will always be our safe place – our fun time. The Greener Grass Podcast is something that comes together organically. We pick our topics ahead of time, but never script our show; what you “hear” is what you get. There are podcasts out there with similar names, but we believe there is no one like us. We pride ourselves on our originality and continued growth.

We feel our hard work is getting noticed. We were recently invited to host a Sofar Sounds event in Columbus, Ohio. Within days we saw a huge spike in our downloads and social media followers.

One of our more recent proud accomplishments is joining with 3 other podcasts to form the Off the Tongue Podcast Network, the biggest active podcast network in Ohio. The Founding Four shows (The Average AF Podcast, The Greener Grass Podcast, Teach a Dummy Podcast, and Skate Mansfield) have distinctly unique concepts but one unifying goal -GROWTH. We have all seen significant increase in online foot traffic and look forward to continuing to expand the network.

What are your plans for the future?
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” We don’t have any big changes to our show planned, but we do have some exciting new additions. Although we are an audio-only podcast, we have incorporated YouTube and TikTok for promotional videos and special events. We recently joined Patreon and are always looking for sponsors and cross-promotional opportunities.

We look forward to expanding our community, continuing to reach wider audiences. We are excited for what the future has in store…. on the other side of the fence.
