Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahnika Keyshay.
Hi Tahnika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Columbus, Ohio. I grew up on the rough side of Columbus, Ohio. I always had a passion for music as a child. My Great Aunt would have me perform in talent shows, pageants, and the church choir of course. My goal in the entertainment industry was to become America’s Next Top Model. I’ve always enjoyed being in the spotlight, doing photoshoots, fashion shows, movies, interviews, and even radio. In 2019 I decided to pursue my career as an American Rapper. I knew I would succeed because I always written short stories and often would use poetry as a hobby. My struggles and being a mom of two kids really gave me a lot to write about. I have a real story to tell, and I know there are a lot of young girls and women my age who can relate, rather it be a strip club bagger or something about my life experience. Overall, growing up in the projects really gave me a lot to rap about. Even though it causes trauma it also molded me to be strong, which has helped me get to where I am today!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has never been a smooth road. I’ve always had to fight extra hard for everything I wanted in my life! Like mentioned growing up in the projects caused a lot of childhood trauma, so I’ve always been on the defense mode, which also could have also caused me to self-destruct as a teenager. Also, getting pregnant during college slowed me down a lot; I got really depressed when my husband was killed. Even after beating all those demons (so I thought), I still found myself dealing with a lot of hate in the music business, which can be a lot because it gets dangerous. I’m petite and pretty but don’t push me, I can get like that lol, but seriously I don’t really like having to deal with the hate all the time; at one point, I almost stopped doing music because it was really starting to affect my mental health / personal life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an American Rapper, model, Actress, and Hairstylist. Lol, I wear many hats, and I specialize in them all. I’ve always been a Queen of all trades especially when it comes to the entertainment industry. It’s important to be multi-talented. Some of my legends have said in many interviews never put all your eggs in one basket. I’m most known currently for being an American Rapper. I really was going crazy with modeling and rapping on the side, but I feel like as a female artist, being a model comes with it. (In my opinion) I’m most proud of not giving up on my dreams even though I’m a single mom. It can’t get rough doing so much and also trying to keep your kids’ dreams first, too. What sets me apart from others is I’m TahnikaKeyshay I’m one of known. The one and only. It’s not an opinion; it’s a FACT (Google Me)
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is to Keep God First and to be okay with needing a team. I’m very independent, so sometimes I forget I can’t do it all alone. It was really hard for me at first accepting that if I’m going to be this big superstar and mold my kids to be as such, I’m going to need #1 God and a Team!
