Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Birch.
Hi Seth, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started as a computer science major with a passion for art that my advisor Kelly Phelps stoked the flame for my creativity and started taking more classes to fill my desire to create. Growing up on a small farm in rural Ohio making use of whatever could be found on the farm to pass the time, making shelters and origami. Alongside use of duct tape, to make wallets and other functional items.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been relatively smooth besides the pandemic causing stresses and other issues. One of the challenges was the stigma of following through and getting an art degree and following a creative path, as to compared to a STEM degree.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most known for sculpture and photography work that I done independently. I am most proud of my sculptural work this far and the technical aspects of the materials and methods of construction are what set my work apart from others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I feel like you make your own luck in certain aspects through consistently showing up, things will happen and I notice when I get less consistent less goes well.
