Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarina Bigney
Hi Sarina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a passion for design, which is what led me to studying Apparel Design and Merchandising in college. After graduation I pursued a career in retail merchandising, until I discovered my passion for floral design. I quickly fell in love with buying blooms and crafting floral pieces for myself in my free time, often documenting them on social media to share with my friends.
What began as a creative outlet where I could express myself through blooms soon blossomed into my full-time career, and I truly couldn’t feel more blessed. I will be celebrating my 5th year in official business this year, and I am so thankful for everyone who has been on this journey with me!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When starting a business, there are always struggles. If I didn’t have struggles, I don’t think I would be doing this right! I am a creative so learning the business side of things was (and still is) a struggle for me. There will always be ups and downs to owning and running a small business, but I believe those shape who we are and what our businesses become eventually.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I believe I am known for my use of color with bloom forward designs. I can create an array of styles and designs, but best known for my marriage of whimsical as well as sculptural designs. I truly like to have fun with my art and have a highly intuitive approach to each design.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Probably that I never had intentions of ever creating a business. I truly just loved creating for myself and sharing that via social media and thanks to my friends and family that truly just exploded in a short amount of time and I was essentially forced (I mean that in a good way!) to start a business, acquire an LLC and apply for the licenses I needed to be able to get a hold of wholesale product to continue this journey. I wouldn’t want it any other way and so very thankful this has been my path in life.
